Samsung Electronics DMC Research Institute Holds AI Forum with World Scholars in the United States
Exploring direction of artificial intelligence development and strengthening cooperation networks


Samsung Electronics held the 'Samsung Global AI Forum' on the 22nd (local time) at Samsung 837 in New York, USA, where it explored the limitations of artificial intelligence technology and ways to overcome them together with world-renowned scholars in the artificial intelligence field.

The forum was attended by approximately 100 artificial intelligence experts, including some 30 related executives from Samsung Electronics such as CEO Yoon Boo-keun, DMC Research Institute Director Kim Chang-yong, VD Business Division Development Team Leader Han Jong-hee, and Software Center AI Team Leader Lee Geun-bae, as well as approximately 20 leading scholars from 14 universities including Professor Zoubin Ghahramani (Cambridge University), Professor Barry Smyth (University of Dublin), Professor Alexander Rush (Harvard University), and Professor Rob Fergus (New York University).

The Samsung Electronics DMC Research Institute (Digital Media & Communications R&D Center), which organized this event, is an advanced research institute that leads the acquisition of future new technologies and new growth drivers that can change the paradigm of set business operations such as mobile devices, TVs, and home appliances.

The sessions were divided into morning and afternoon. First, Park Sung-pa, Head of Big Data Development Group at Samsung Electronics Wireless Business Division, and Kim Min-kyung, Head of Cloud Solutions Lab at Home Appliance Business Division, each presented on the topic of 'Samsung Electronics Artificial Intelligence Status,' followed by a session where major research groups from participating universities shared their research progress. In the afternoon, in-depth technical discussions were held, divided into three areas: △language, △video, and △analysis and recommendation. Finally, all participants gathered together to actively exchange opinions on directions for overcoming artificial intelligence limitations.

Samsung Electronics organized this event to introduce the company's artificial intelligence future vision to the scholars, explore new dimensions of artificial intelligence development direction through forums with them, and strengthen cooperation networks with leading scholars in the artificial intelligence field.

In his remarks, CEO Yoon Boo-keun stated, "Thorough preparation for the coming artificial intelligence era is an important juncture that will determine Samsung's future," and added, "If we can add the thoughts and insights of experts to Samsung Electronics' passion, we expect to demonstrate leadership in the artificial intelligence era."

DMC Research Institute Director Kim Chang-yong said, "It is important to understand the limitations of artificial intelligence technology and build capabilities to overcome upcoming challenges and prepare countermeasures," and added, "I hope this event becomes a starting point for gathering ideas and materializing solutions to create a better world together."

Samsung Electronics plans to operate the AI Forum as an annual event, using it as a venue to discuss directions for the development of AI core technologies and technological innovation, and to continuously reconsider the company's strategic direction.
