SKT and Korea Electric Power Safety Corporation Partner to Ensure Communications Don't Interrupt During Power Outages

SK Telecom announced on the 18th that it signed a business agreement with the Korea Electrical Safety Corporation for 'exchange and mutual cooperation in electrical safety management technology.'
Through this business agreement, the two companies will collaborate to maintain communication services within buildings during electrical safety inspections, collaborate on consulting and precise diagnosis of electrical safety management of communication equipment, and promote the expansion of an ICT-based electrical safety management system.
SK Telecom plans to focus more on communication quality through this agreement. The Korea Electric Safety Corporation conducts safety inspections of electrical facilities every three years, and electricity is shut off during these inspections.
Because of this, in some buildings, power outages caused the communication relay facilities installed inside the building to not work, causing customers to experience inconvenience in using communication services.
However, with this agreement, SK Telecom will be able to receive advance notice of safety inspection schedules from the Korea Electrical Safety Corporation. SK Telecom plans to provide emergency generators for use during power outages during safety inspections. This will minimize customer inconvenience by ensuring the continuation of telecommunications services.
Additionally, the two companies will conduct consulting for precise electrical safety diagnosis and systematic management of approximately 110,000 SK Telecom communication facilities, including switches and repeaters. In addition, we plan to cooperate in the development and expansion of an electrical safety management system based on ICT technologies such as the Internet of Things.
An SK official stated, "SK Telecom is the first domestic mobile carrier to sign an agreement with the Korea Electrical Safety Corporation (KESCO) to manage electrical facility safety." Kang Jong-ryeol, head of SK Telecom's infrastructure division, said, "This agreement establishes a foundation for systematic electrical facility safety management while ensuring the best possible communication quality."
Kim Lee-won, technical director of the Korea Electric Safety Corporation, stated, “The technology environment in the energy industry is rapidly changing based on ICT,” and added, “Through this agreement, we will innovate the electrical facility safety management method that has been focused on ‘post-recovery’ to focus on ‘preemptive prevention.’”

NB-IoT는 LTE로 실현 가능한 기술이지만 사용 범위 넓고 가격 저렴해 “NB-IoT라 하면, 새로운 네트워크망을 구축이라 생각한다. 일부 전용 기지국을 구축한 사례도 있으나 기존 LTE망을 유지한 채 전국망을 확대했다”고 KT 박윤성 팀장이 말했다. 박 팀장 말에 따르면, NB-IoT의 기술 수준은 LTE 대비 통신망이 1.2배 정도 더 넓은 수준이다. 통신 3사(KT, SKT, LG유플러스)가 사물인터넷 국제전시회에 참여해 각 회사의 IoT 통신 모듈과 관련 서비스를 소개했다.

최신 반도체 기술 흐름을 한눈에 선보이는 전시가 열린다. 한국반도체산업협회는 17일부터 서울 코엑스에서 ‘제19회 반도체대전(SEDEX, SEmiconDuctor EXhibition)’을 개최한다고 밝혔다. 반도체대전(SEDEX)은 한국반도체산업협회가 주관하는 행사로, 같은 기간 한국전자전, 한국디스플레이산업전과 함께 ‘한국전자산업대전’이라는 총칭으로 개최된다. 반도체대전에는 삼성전자와 SK하이닉스를 필두로 반도체 장비, 소재, 부품, 설계, 재료, 설비기업 등 반도체 산업 생태계를 구성하는 전 분야 180개 기업이 517부스로 참여한다. 역대 최대 규모다. 한국반도체산업협회는 반도체대전 개막에 앞서 전시 관람사와 관람객들의 이해를 돕기 위해 올해 반도체대전의 다섯 가지 관전 포인트를 제시했다.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK텔레콤이 3월 21일 서울 광화문 일대에서 열린 대형 K-팝 공연에 AI 기반 네트워크 운영 시스템을 처음 적용해 통신 품질을 관리했다고 밝혔다. 공연 전후 3시간 동안 모바일 데이터 사용량은 12.15TB로 직전 주말 같은 시간대보다 약 2배 늘었다. SK텔레콤은 AI 시스템 ‘A-One’을 활용해 5분 단위, 50m 단위로 트래픽을 감시하며 과부하 가능성에 대응했고, 임시 통신 시설과 현장 인력 운영도 병행했다. 밀집 행사와 외국인 이용 수요가 동시에 늘어나는 환경에서 AI 기반 자율 네트워크 운영의 현장 적용 가능성을 확인한 사례로 해석된다.
