SKT, don't develop IoT-based technology, just borrow it.

These days, various services are being created as open technology meets developers' unique ideas. A marketplace has opened in the telecommunications sector, which was known for being difficult to obtain technical information compared to other fields, where verified foundational technologies can be borrowed in one place to develop new services.
SK Telecom announced the opening of the 'SK Telecom API Portal,' which brings together its foundational technologies (APIs, Application Programming Interfaces), such as T Map and IoT services, in one place.
The 'API Portal ( www.sktelecomapi.com )' is a space created to gather APIs that were previously provided to developers in the form of individual contracts, allowing developers or development companies to borrow the necessary technologies for free or for a fee to develop new services.
At the 'API Portal,' you can purchase or use for free a total of 23 APIs, including 11 types of T Map-related APIs containing T Map's know-how, such as real-time traffic information, multi-route guidance, and route optimization, as well as SmartRTC, a platform that supports real-time video, voice, and data transmission from IoT devices.
SK Telecom plans to continuously release various foundational technologies that will benefit developers, such as authentication security technology (FIDO, Fast Identity Online) and cloud-based security solutions (SSM, Smart device Security Mgmt.).
Through this, developers are expected to be able to develop innovative services in various fields, including new mobile navigation services, various transportation-related services such as logistics/delivery and quick service, as well as various IoT services and security/authentication.
In addition, SK Telecom plans to expand its functions into a 'One-Stop' marketplace in 2018 that handles sales and payment services for external developers who register their independently developed technologies on the 'API Portal'.
The 'API Portal' provides T Map-related APIs and Smart RTC for a fee, while opening up the remaining services for free. There are two pricing plans: a pay-per-use plan where fees are based on usage, and a flat-rate plan where a fixed amount is used for a set fee. To commemorate the launch of the API Portal, SK Telecom is offering the T Map API for free without data limits for the entire month of November.
Kim Jang-ki, Head of the IoT Business Division at SK Telecom, said, “We expect that various specialized services that will enrich customers’ lives will be born through the 'SK Telecom API Portal,'” adding, “We will continue to strive to foster a developer ecosystem through the continuous opening of APIs.”

SKT Develops Next-Generation Wi-Fi Technology with Max Speed of 4.8Gbps
SK Telecom announced that it has successfully developed next-generation WiFi technology and AP with maximum speeds reaching 4.8Gbps and demonstrated them at its Bundang headquarters. The next-generation WiFi technology developed by SK Telecom utilizes technology based on 802.11ax, the standard specification set by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), to provide maximum speeds of 4.8Gbps. This is approximately 4 times faster than "Gigabit WiFi (1.3Gbps, 802.11ac standard)" which is currently widely used in smartphones. The "next-generation WiFi" transmits and receives radio waves using 4 antennas, and the utilized frequency bandwidth is also 160MHz, which is twice that of Gigabit WiFi. It operates in the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency bands.

SK Telecom is moving swiftly on the international stage to establish 5G standards ahead of schedule and achieve early commercialization. SK Telecom announced on the 24th that it will present research results on core 5G commercialization technologies and outline a blueprint for early 5G commercialization at the 'NGMN Forum'* to be held in Seattle on the 25th (local time).

Databricks Unveils Open AI Security Monitoring 'Lakewatch'
Databricks entered the security market on March 24 by unveiling LakeWatch, an open-source agentic SIEM. The core functionality of this product is to integrate and analyze security, IT, and business data in a single environment to support AI-based threat detection and investigation. The company explained that it reduces the limitations of existing security operations centers, which have had to forgo some data due to high cost structures, and enables large-scale data analysis and automation based on open formats and ecosystems. LakeWatch is currently offered as a private preview, with Adobe and Dropbox mentioned as early customers. Databricks also announced an expanded partnership with Anthropic as well as the acquisition of Antimatter and SiftD.ai.
