ST Launches Bluetooth Wireless Networking Development Kit
Published2017.11.15 09:52STMicroelectronics (ST) plans to further strengthen the smartphone control application market by launching new software that enables the development of connected smart objects using the latest Bluetooth wireless networking capabilities.
Since Bluetooth 5 mesh networking is adopted as an industry standard, it enables the creation of interoperable products that allow users to make flexible and free choices.
ST’s BlueNRG-MESH software development kit (SDK) allows you to develop network-connected products and smartphone apps to control them. It is the only SDK on the market consisting of three types: two app developer packages for Android and iOS, and an embedded development package for building smart objects such as lighting components and sensors. All three packages provide software building blocks for driving applications using ST's BlueNRG Mesh-Ready Bluetooth Low Energy ICs.
Benedetto Vigna, President of ST’s Analog, MEMS and Sensors Group, said, “Bluetooth 5 will be a powerful centripetal force in the IoT market, and we have been devoting all our efforts to providing related solutions to support new features such as mesh networks. Adding BlueNRG-MESH to the ST BlueNRG portfolio means that the world of connected smart things, such as smart home appliances and light switches, has begun for all of us, and that they can now be controlled more securely and conveniently through user interfaces with various functions and styles of smart mobile apps.”
The BlueNRG-MESH SDK was demonstrated at Bluetooth Asia 2017, held in Shenzhen, China (September 26–27). It is already being supplied to some customers, and mass production is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2017.

Nordic Semiconductor Begins Production of Bluetooth 5 Certified SoCs
Nordic Semiconductor has announced the start of mass production of the nRF52810 Bluetooth LE (Bluetooth Low Energy) SoC (System-on-Chip), a memory-optimized device for high-performance Bluetooth 5 certified SoCs. The nRF52810 completes Nordic Semiconductor's nRF52 series portfolio alongside the proven nRF52832 (pin-compatible with nRF52810) and the high-end nRF52840 SoC. The production launch of the nRF52810 SoC comes with Nordic's S112 SoftDevice (Nordic's latest RF Bluetooth 5 Bluetooth LE protocol software or stack) and a new version of Nordic's nRF5 SDK (Software Development Kit), and production-ready development tools with complete peripheral drivers are also supported for the nRF52810 SoC. The nRF52810 SoC consumes the lowest power among the nRF52 series and delivers Bluetooth 5's fast transmission speed of 2Mbps, improved coexistence, and enhanced broadcast throughput through advertising extension features to the most cost-sensitive mass production applications.

Silicon Labs announced the launch of new dynamic multi-protocol software for its Wireless Gecko SoC and module product families. By leveraging Silicon Labs' new multi-protocol software and Wireless Gecko SoC product family, users can simultaneously operate Zigbee and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology on a single SoC, enabling them to benefit from all the key advantages offered by both protocols.
