SEMI: North American semiconductor equipment shipments down 1.8% from last month
Published2017.11.23 11:42The Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI) announced today that total semiconductor equipment shipments in North America for October amounted to $2.02 billion.
SEMI publishes shipment figures for North American semiconductor equipment manufacturers in its report based on a three-month average. October shipments fell 1.8% from the $2.05 billion recorded in September, but rose 23.7% compared to the $1.63 billion recorded in October of the previous year.
Shipments of front-end process equipment in October amounted to $1.78 billion, down 1.7% from $1.81 billion in September and up 22.2% from $1.46 billion in October of the previous year.
Shipments of back-end process equipment in October amounted to $230 million, down 2.8% from $240 million in September and up 36.4% from $170 million in October of last year.
SEMI President Ajit Manocha stated, “Equipment shipments, which have seen record sales this year, have been on a downward trend for four consecutive months,” adding, “However, we expect equipment shipments this year to increase by up to 30% compared to last year, and we anticipate positive growth next year as well.”

SEMI: North American Semiconductor Equipment Shipments Up 32.8% Year-on-Year
SEMI (Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International) announced that North American semiconductor equipment shipments in July totaled $2.27 billion. SEMI reports semiconductor equipment manufacturer shipments in the North American region on a three-month average basis. July shipments declined 1.4% compared to June equipment shipments of $2.3 billion, while showing a 32.8% increase compared to July of the previous year at $1.71 billion. July front-end equipment shipments reached $1.99 billion, up 0.2% from $1.97 billion in June, and up 37.1% compared to July of the previous year at $1.45 billion. Front-end equipment includes wafer processing, mask/reticle manufacturing, wafer fabrication, and fab equipment.

SEMI to Record High Silicon Wafer Shipments in 2018
The Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI) has announced its forecast for global silicon wafer area shipments from 2017 to 2019. Polished and epitaxial wafer area shipments are projected at 11.448 billion square inches in 2017, 11.814 billion square inches in 2018, and 12.235 billion square inches in 2019. Wafer shipments this year are expected to exceed the record high recorded in 2016, with records expected to be broken again in 2018 and 2019. Dan Tracy, Senior Director of SEMI's Industry Research & Statistics (IR&S), stated, "Silicon wafer shipments are anticipated to reach record-high levels this year, with projections to surpass this again in 2019. We expect steady annual growth driven by the surge in connected devices required for automotive, medical, wearable, and high-performance computing applications."
