October shipments rose 22.2% year-on-year

The Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI) announced today that total semiconductor equipment shipments in North America for October amounted to $2.02 billion.

SEMI publishes shipment figures for North American semiconductor equipment manufacturers in its report based on a three-month average. October shipments fell 1.8% from the $2.05 billion recorded in September, but rose 23.7% compared to the $1.63 billion recorded in October of the previous year.

Shipments of front-end process equipment in October amounted to $1.78 billion, down 1.7% from $1.81 billion in September and up 22.2% from $1.46 billion in October of the previous year.

Shipments of back-end process equipment in October amounted to $230 million, down 2.8% from $240 million in September and up 36.4% from $170 million in October of last year.

SEMI President Ajit Manocha stated, “Equipment shipments, which have seen record sales this year, have been on a downward trend for four consecutive months,” adding, “However, we expect equipment shipments this year to increase by up to 30% compared to last year, and we anticipate positive growth next year as well.”
