Minister Yoo Young-min delivers keynote speech on 5G at 'MWC 2018'

Minister of Science and ICT Yoo Young-min will participate in the 'Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018,' which begins on February 26, and deliver a keynote speech on the topic of 5G.
During the exhibition, Minister Yoo Young-min is scheduled to hold meetings with KT, SK Telecom, and LG Uplus to discuss cooperation measures for 5G commercialization. He also plans to visit major companies participating in MWC, such as Samsung, LG, Ericsson, Nokia, and Huawei, to grasp the trends in the mobile industry, and to visit the Korean Pavilion, which is composed mainly of startups, to encourage the participating companies.
After participating in the MWC exhibition, we will visit the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) to inspect the progress of the reactor's construction.
The International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), in which Korea participates as a member of the board, aims for completion in 2025, and through this meeting, we request increased participation of Korean researchers and companies in the ITER project.
In addition, plans are underway to discuss the revision of the MOU on information and communication technology (ICT) cooperation with India, coordination on 5G standardization, and expansion of cooperation in advanced technology fields between research institutions, and to strengthen the foundation for cooperation between the two countries in science and technology innovation fields such as new technologies, aviation, and space with France, and to promote science and technology diplomacy activities.

KT, MWC에서 음성기반 차세대 IVI 선보인다
KT는 ‘모바일 월드 콩그레스 2018(Mobile World Congress)’에서 국내 통신사 최초로 IVI 플랫폼을 선보인다고 밝혔다. IVI(In-Vehicle Infotainment)란, 차량용 인포테인먼트 서비스로 차 안에서 즐길 수 있는 엔터테인먼트와 정보 시스템을 총칭한다. 영화, 게임, TV, SNS 등과 같은 엔터테인먼트 기능과 내비게이션, 모바일 기기와 연동된 다양한 서비스를 제공하는 기술이라고 볼 수 있다. KT가 MWC 2018에서 전시하는 IVI(명칭: GiGA drive)는 국내 통신사 최초의 IVI 전용 소프트웨어 플랫폼으로서 통신부터 콘텐츠를 아우르는 통신사의 기술력과 강점이 집약된 서비스이다. 특히 차량 내 클러스터(자동차의 계기판)부터 AVN(Audio Video Navigation)까지를 포함한 영역을 글로벌 차량에 바로 적용할 수 있도록 했다.

European Patent Applications Surpass 200,000 for the First Time… South Korea Maintains 5th Place, Led by Batteries and Telecommunications
According to the European Patent Office (EPO)'s 'Technology Dashboard 2025', European patent applications last year reached 201,974, surpassing 200,000 for the first time. Korean companies and inventors filed 14,355 applications, representing a 9.5% increase from the previous year and maintaining 5th place by country. Battery, digital communication, and semiconductor technologies led the growth, with Samsung ranking as the top EPO applicant for the second consecutive year and LG reaching 3rd place. The presence of major domestic cities such as Seoul, Suwon, and Yongin was also confirmed. It was also revealed that Korea's European patent strategy is expanding beyond individual technologies to span the entire industry.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK Telecom announced that it applied an AI-based network operation system for the first time at a large-scale K-pop concert held in the Gwanghwamun area of Seoul on March 21st, managing communication quality throughout the event. Mobile data usage during the three hours before and after the concert reached 12.15TB, approximately doubling compared to the same time slot the previous weekend. SK Telecom monitored traffic using the AI system 'A-One' in five-minute and 50-meter units to respond to potential overload situations, while also operating temporary communication facilities and on-site personnel in parallel. This case is interpreted as confirmation of the practical applicability of AI-based autonomous network operation in an environment where demand from dense events and foreign users increases simultaneously.
