SK Telecom announced a 5G-based virtual avatar hologram service utilizing 3D video ahead of MWC 2018. In addition, SK Telecom unveiled a HoloBox equipped with the AI service 'NUGU' at MWC 2018, showcasing the digitized cyber world that 5G and artificial intelligence will bring.

SK Telecom, which opened a standalone exhibition hall with an area of 604㎡ under the theme of 'Perfect 5G', is jointly installing a 5G base station within the exhibition hall with Samsung Electronics to showcase 360-degree 5G video call demonstrations, HoloBox, and social VR services, thereby revealing 5G-based communication technology to the world.
360-degree video calls, which require the transmission of a large amount of video data, can demonstrate ultra-high-definition immersive media based on SKT's leading network technologies, such as ▲the world's first 5G NSA (Non-Standalone) standard-based wireless transmission technology ▲'5G NextGen Core' which configures network slicing by linking 5G-LTE ▲'TANGO', an AI-based network management system ▲and an 'SDN platform' that centrally controls 5G wired networks via software.

K-City's V2X technology-based autonomous vehicles were also on display.
The autonomous vehicle that completed an autonomous driving demonstration at K-City in early February in collaboration with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will also be on display at this MWC. Through a separately installed display, visitors can view footage of the autonomous driving at K-City and V2X technology, which is 5G-based vehicle-to-object communication. Along with this, real-time HD map operation technology for high-resolution autonomous vehicles and T Map 3D visualization technology with HERE, with whom a partnership was signed this year, are expected to render major areas of Seoul three-dimensionally on T Map.

'Quantum cryptography' technology that makes eavesdropping fundamentally impossible
At this MWC, SK Telecom officially announced the acquisition of IDQ, the world's leading quantum cryptography company, along with an exhibition of 'quantum cryptography' that it has been developing for eight years. The commercialization of 5G is fundamentally based on connecting 43 billion Internet of Things (IoT) devices worldwide and reducing the risk of information leakage through network security.
SK Telecom, which announced the acquisition of IDQ during the MWC exhibition, is expected to signal the strengthening of its global competitiveness based on the construction of the world's most secure 5G network through this acquisition.

In addition, a demonstration of 'direct communication between terminals' will be unveiled to the public at the public safety booth, alongside T Live Caster and Body Cam. 'Direct communication between terminals' operates by connecting to a network like a regular mobile phone, but attempts a direct call between terminals when in a dead zone. Equipped with a built-in Digital Multi-Range Communication (DMR) chip, it enables calls within a radius of 1 km, which can be extremely useful in disaster relief sites.
