KT and Siemens Partner to Build ICT-Based Smart Power Plants
Published2018.05.16 11:52KT announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Siemens for cooperation in the ICT-based smart power plant business at Seoul Square in Jung-gu, Seoul.
Under this MOU, the two companies agreed to collaborate to jointly address the trend toward smart power plants driven by the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Specific areas of collaboration include: Developing domestic smart power plant projects and cooperating on pilot projects; Establishing wireless networks (LTE/IoT) and smart sensing/control of power generation facilities; and Developing and expanding AI, AR, drone, and mobile-based smart services tailored to power plants.
Siemens Korea, the Korean subsidiary of Siemens, focuses its core competencies on electrification, automation, and digitalization, encompassing power generation, transmission and substation, smart grid solutions, and power energy applications. Within this sector, the Siemens Power Generation Services division focuses on solutions and platforms related to compressors for industrial power plants and oil and gas production, providing safe and efficient power generation services.
KT has been building secure, enterprise-specific LTE networks for numerous public institutions and corporations. Furthermore, KT possesses diverse ICT capabilities and experience applicable to smart power plants, including 5G, which was showcased at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, as well as IoT, AI, big data, AR/VR, and drone technologies. If this is combined with Siemens' power generation service business, the business synergy between the two companies is expected to be maximized.
KT Public Customer Center Director Han Sang-hyun said, “We will lead the domestic smart power plant business through cooperation with Siemens, a global power generation equipment specialist,” and “In particular, we will fully utilize KT’s wireless infrastructure and ICT capabilities to transform the offline-centric power plant work environment into a mobile-based intelligent one.”
“The smart power generation industry is expected to become an important foundation for building advanced smart cities in Korea,” said Seok Beom-jun, head of Siemens’ Power Generation Services Division. “Siemens plans to contribute to this cooperation project based on the know-how it has accumulated through operating power generation facilities and service networks around the world.”

KT Leads Joint Entry of SME Partners into Global Markets
KT는 서울 종로구 KT스퀘어에서 경영기획부문장 구현모 사장, 글로벌사업추진실장 윤경림 부사장 등을 비롯한 KT 임직원 및 70여개 협력사 임직원 170여명이 참석한 가운데 ‘2018년도 상반기 글로벌사업협의체’ 총회를 개최했다고 밝혔다. KT는 2017년 11월 중소 협력사들의 글로벌 진출을 지원하기 위해 ‘글로벌사업협의체’를 출범시켰으며, 상∙하반기 연2회 정기총회를 개최한다. KT 글로벌사업협의체에는 KT 협력사 중 해외 진출 의향이 있는 기업들이 참여하고 있다.

KT Accelerates Autonomous Driving Business Through Agreement with Unmanned Solution
KT announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for 'autonomous driving commercialization' with 'Unmanned Solution' at KT's Gwanghwamun headquarters in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Following the autonomous driving commercialization partnership, KT will be responsible for constructing autonomous driving V2X communication infrastructure and control platforms, as well as analyzing driving pattern big data. Unmanned Solution will proceed with business operations by manufacturing autonomous vehicles based on its capabilities in autonomous driving hardware manufacturing and solution development.

유럽특허청(EPO)의 ‘기술 대시보드 2025’에 따르면 지난해 유럽 특허 출원은 20만1974건으로 처음 20만건을 넘었다. 한국 기업과 발명가의 출원은 1만4355건으로 전년보다 9.5% 증가해 국가별 5위를 유지했다. 배터리와 디지털 통신, 반도체가 증가세를 이끌었고, 삼성은 2년 연속 EPO 최대 출원 기업, LG는 3위에 올랐다. 서울·수원·용인 등 국내 주요 도시의 존재감도 확인됐다. 한국의 유럽 특허 전략이 개별 기술을 넘어 산업 전반으로 확장되고 있다는 점도 드러났다.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK텔레콤이 3월 21일 서울 광화문 일대에서 열린 대형 K-팝 공연에 AI 기반 네트워크 운영 시스템을 처음 적용해 통신 품질을 관리했다고 밝혔다. 공연 전후 3시간 동안 모바일 데이터 사용량은 12.15TB로 직전 주말 같은 시간대보다 약 2배 늘었다. SK텔레콤은 AI 시스템 ‘A-One’을 활용해 5분 단위, 50m 단위로 트래픽을 감시하며 과부하 가능성에 대응했고, 임시 통신 시설과 현장 인력 운영도 병행했다. 밀집 행사와 외국인 이용 수요가 동시에 늘어나는 환경에서 AI 기반 자율 네트워크 운영의 현장 적용 가능성을 확인한 사례로 해석된다.
