STMicroelectronics has released the STWBC-MC15W wireless battery charging transmitter capable of controlling multiple charging coils.

This product reduces the burden of having to place battery-powered products in the correct position when charging.

The STWBC-MC complies with the latest Qi 1.2.4 standard and is the first transmitter specially designed to support the Qi MP-A15 EPP (Extended Power Profile) topology. It not only detects valid receivers and selects the most efficient coil for power transmission but also ensures extended Foreign Object Detection (FOD) through bidirectional communication with the receiver. The STWBC-MC also supports dedicated wireless fast-charging extension features depending on the major smartphone manufacturer.

The STWBC-MC monitors coil current and voltage to ensure rapid and stable charging for all types of devices. By integrating a digital DC-DC controller, it delivers the necessary power to the coil at a fixed frequency, minimizing interference with other systems within smartphones and tablets. With the EU seeking to expand the scope of the RED (Radio Equipment Directive) to include wireless charging transmitters and limit H-field emissions exceeding 145 kHz to -5 dBm, the STWBC-MC is designed with low EMI to facilitate compliance.

ST's patented triple-path modulation technique is used for communication between the transmitter and receiver, increasing noise immunity, and the IC's low standby power consumption minimizes energy consumed when not charging.

You can quickly start development using the STEVAL-ISB047V1 evaluation kit for STWBC-MC and the STSW-STWBCGUI graphical user interface for ST's STWBC transmitter IC. Using this GUI, you can download the dedicated firmware for the STSW-ISB047FW for STWBC-MC, monitor performance, and fine-tune parameters.
