SARA-N410 module certification complete for LTE Cat NB1 support

u-blox today announced that T-Mobile US has certified its LTE Cat NB1 SARA-N410 module on the first NB-IoT (narrowband Internet of Things) network in the US.

The SARA-N410, an ultra-compact module measuring 16 x 26 mm, offers ultra-low power consumption, making it ideal for IoT applications that require long-term operation at optimal cost. Key applications include gas, water, and electricity metering, as well as streetlights, parking sensors, and waste management in smart cities. It is also a suitable solution for smart building applications such as building automation, HVAC, and access control, as well as industrial monitoring and control.

Critical firmware updates can be securely handled using u-blox' proprietary uFOTA (firmware over the air) client/server solution, which supports LWM2M, a lightweight protocol ideal for IoT applications. This solution allows customers to maintain and manage their hardware throughout its lifecycle, while implementing features and improvements relevant to critical applications in long-term operation. SARA-N410 also supports non-IP data delivery. This is a method to transmit data more efficiently in low-power wide-area (LPWA) technology where information processing capacity is limited.

The SARA-N410's nested design allows for easy migration between u-blox 2G, 3G, and 4G modules, while fully supporting future-proof mechanical scalability across technologies. Operating over a -40°C to +85°C temperature range, the module supports Power Saving Mode (PSM) and Extended Discontinuous Reception (eDRX), which can extend battery life up to 10 years.

Additionally, the significantly improved 3GPP coverage capabilities enable it to reach deeper into buildings, even underground, than other wireless interface technologies such as GSM or Category 1.
