KT and Samsung Electronics Demonstrate 5G Sky Ship in India

A 5G Sky Ship is flying at the IMC 2018 venue.
KT showcased a SkyShip demonstration equipped with 5G technology together with Samsung Electronics at the 'India Mobile Congress 2018,' held in New Delhi, India, for three days starting on the 25th.
The India Mobile Congress (IMC) is a mobile telecommunications exhibition organized by the Indian government and the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), and it was held for the second time this year following 2017. This year's IMC 2018 was held under the theme 'New Digital Horizons, Connect, Create, Innovate'.
KT showcased a SkyShip demonstration equipped with 5G technology together with Samsung Electronics and Indian telecommunications operator Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd, who are participating in this event.
The KT Skyship was equipped with Samsung Electronics’ 5G Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) and a camera capable of 360-degree shooting, and the video captured by the camera was transmitted in real time without delay to large monitors set up at the Samsung Electronics exhibition hall and the Reliance Jio Infocomm exhibition hall within the venue via a 5G network established on-site.
The video captured by the sky ship is being transmitted in real time using 5G technology.
On the 25th, Indian Minister of Communications Manoj Sinha and Reliance Jio Infocomm Chairman Mukesh Ambani visited the Samsung Electronics exhibition booth, listened to an explanation of the 5G SkyShip, and showed great interest.
"The SkyShip platform is establishing itself as KT's unique differentiated solution that integrates KT's network infrastructure and ICT capabilities," said Oh Sung-mok, President of KT Network Division. "Going forward, we will continue to expand its use into various fields by applying innovative 5G-based technologies."
Meanwhile, after introducing the 'Skyship Platform' as a specialized disaster safety solution last June, KT has been demonstrating the use of Skyship in various situations, such as forest fire suppression training with the Forest Aviation Headquarters and disaster evacuation training with the Gyeonggi Disaster and Safety Headquarters. Recently, the company completed the development of Skyship 2, which features further advancements in flight time and payload capacity, and is currently conducting test flights.

KT Launches Industry-Academic Collaboration to Foster Future 5G Talent
KT has signed a memorandum of understanding with Yonsei University and Gachon University to build 5G-based smart campuses and accelerate 5G-related research. KT will establish 5G commercial networks across three campuses of the two universities and provide support for 5G-related research including URLLC and medical VR content.

LG U+ to build 5G network with domestically produced equipment
국산 장비 제조사 다산네트웍솔루션즈 및 유비쿼스가 공동 개발한 고성능 집선 장비인 100G 스위치를 모바일 백홀망에 구축하기로 한 것이다. LG유플러스는 서울 및 경기 일대에 450여 대를 우선 구축하고 5G 네트워크 구축 일정에 맞춰 전국망에 약 9000여 대의 장비를 추가로 구축할 예정이다.

European Patent Applications Surpass 200,000 for the First Time… South Korea Maintains 5th Place, Led by Batteries and Telecommunications
According to the European Patent Office (EPO)'s 'Technology Dashboard 2025', European patent applications last year reached 201,974, surpassing 200,000 for the first time. Korean companies and inventors filed 14,355 applications, representing a 9.5% increase from the previous year and maintaining 5th place by country. Battery, digital communication, and semiconductor technologies led the growth, with Samsung ranking as the top EPO applicant for the second consecutive year and LG reaching 3rd place. The presence of major domestic cities such as Seoul, Suwon, and Yongin was also confirmed. It was also revealed that Korea's European patent strategy is expanding beyond individual technologies to span the entire industry.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK텔레콤이 3월 21일 서울 광화문 일대에서 열린 대형 K-팝 공연에 AI 기반 네트워크 운영 시스템을 처음 적용해 통신 품질을 관리했다고 밝혔다. 공연 전후 3시간 동안 모바일 데이터 사용량은 12.15TB로 직전 주말 같은 시간대보다 약 2배 늘었다. SK텔레콤은 AI 시스템 ‘A-One’을 활용해 5분 단위, 50m 단위로 트래픽을 감시하며 과부하 가능성에 대응했고, 임시 통신 시설과 현장 인력 운영도 병행했다. 밀집 행사와 외국인 이용 수요가 동시에 늘어나는 환경에서 AI 기반 자율 네트워크 운영의 현장 적용 가능성을 확인한 사례로 해석된다.
