The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 26th that the Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) and the Global Certification Foundation (GCF) signed an MOU for the development of an IoT certification program.
The Global Certification Forum (GCF) is an organization that operates certification programs for internationally accepted mobile communication technologies such as 5G and NB-IoT.

This business agreement was signed at MWC19 with the attendance of Park Jae-moon, Chairman of the Korea Information and Communications Technology Association, and Lars Nelson, Secretary General of the European Mobile Certification Association.

The two organizations agreed to jointly develop, operate, and promote a certification program to expand the base for the oneM2M platform standard.

oneoneM2M is an IoT service platform technology being jointly developed by eight regional standard development organizations around the world, including Korea, Europe, North America, China, Japan, and India.

Through this MOU, TTA's OneM2M platform standard will be linked to the GCF's IoT network certification program, laying the foundation for ensuring interoperability between IoT networks and platform technologies.

With this business agreement, the Ministry of Science and ICT and TTA will verify the suitability and interoperability of the OneM2M platform standard with the GCF certification program at the 'Global IoT Testing and Certification Center' currently under construction and operation, and then launch a full-scale certification program starting in April.

Once the certification program is launched, it will be possible to verify compatibility between IoT products and services and IoT networks used by 133 global mobile carriers in 63 countries around the world.

Through this, it is expected that domestic small and medium-sized enterprises will be able to easily enter overseas markets with IoT products and services developed overseas without separate GCF certification procedures.

An official from the Ministry of Science and ICT said, “We will actively support the overseas expansion of domestic IoT products and services by expanding support for internationally accredited testing and verification and hosting IoT overseas roadshows so that excellent domestic IoT SMEs can lead the overseas IoT market without worrying about complicated overseas certification procedures or costs.”
