Electric motorcycles are attracting attention as an eco-friendly means of transportation that reduces carbon emissions and fine dust by replacing fossil fuel-powered internal combustion engines with electric batteries.

However, its use is limited due to limitations such as short driving distance and long charging time.

KT announced on the 17th that it will work with Daerim Motorcycle and AJ Bike to revitalize the smart mobility service business based on electric motorcycles.

On the 16th, KT signed a 'Business Agreement for Activation of EV (Electric Vehicle) Mobility Business' with Daerim Motorcycle and AJ Bike at the KT building in Gwanghwamun and decided to jointly promote EV-based smart mobility business such as electric motorcycle battery sharing service.

Based on this agreement, KT, Daerim Motorcycle, and AJ Bike plan to jointly develop a battery sharing service to complement and revitalize the shortcomings of electric motorcycles.

The electric motorcycle battery sharing service is a service where electric motorcycle users return their used batteries to a nearby battery station and exchange and immediately use fully charged batteries.

The battery needs to be charged for a long time Unlike the existing plug-in charging method, it has the advantage of being able to replace the battery in just a few seconds.

Therefore, it is expected that the limitations of existing electric motorcycles, which have limited use, will be completely overcome by allowing uninterrupted use of electric motorcycles.

Under this agreement, KT, the leading domestic connected car platform operator (market share of approximately 47%, Ministry of Science and ICT, March 2019), will develop an electric motorcycle control and battery sharing platform and be responsible for operating the service.

Electric motorcycle users can check key driving information, such as battery station locations and remaining battery level, through a smartphone app platform developed by KT.

Daerim Motorcycle, Korea's leading motorcycle manufacturer, and AJ Bike, the leading motorcycle rental company, are developing a battery-sharing electric motorcycle and establishing a foundation for commercializing the service by attracting B2B customers such as quick service, franchise, and delivery service providers.

KT, Daerim Motorcycle, and AJ Bike plan to actively promote electric motorcycles, including standardizing battery sharing services, based on the synergy between leading businesses in each field.

Initially, the company will operate a battery sharing service targeting B2B customers who own electric motorcycles, and plans to further enhance the service model by analyzing driving data using big data.

In the future, the plan is to expand into a shared service business that allows individual users to conveniently use electric two-wheeled vehicles deployed in various locations, and to expand into a new mobility business that connects the first mile and the last mile.

KT Connected Car Business Center Managing Director Choi Kang-rim said, "We will present a new shared mobility business by combining KT's connected car platform with Daerim Motorcycle and AJ Bike's two-wheeled vehicle manufacturing and rental business capabilities.He said, “We will solidify our position as an industry leader based on seamless smart mobility services from the first mile to the last mile.”

Daerim Motorcycle CEO Bae Won-bok said, "In order to promote the battery sharing service business, we will focus on technology standardization and provide control services so that customers can use electric motorcycles more conveniently." He added, "As a leader in the motorcycle industry, we will actively respond to the government's eco-friendly and fine dust reduction policies."

AJ Bike CEO Jae-won Seo said, "AJ Bike is the largest motorcycle rental company in Korea and plans to actively cooperate with KT and Daerim Motorcycle to comply with government policies and provide products that meet customer needs through various platforms."
