The 50th Korea Electronics Show 2019, celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Korean electronics industry, opened on the 8th at COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul.

Hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and organized by the Korea Electronics Association (KEA), the Korea Electronics Show (KES) celebrated its 50th anniversary this year since its first event in 1969. Under the theme of “Hyper-connected society, life is IT!”, a total of 443 companies, including 104 overseas companies, set up 1,100 booths.

The opening ceremony was attended by approximately 400 people, including Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Sung Yun-mo, government officials, and industry figures such as KEA Chairman Kim Ki-nam, KSIA Chairman Jin Kyo-young, and LG Electronics President Song Dae-hyun.

KES 2019 will showcase a wide range of core technologies and products of the 4th Industrial Revolution, including 5G, AI, cloud, IoT, autonomous driving, VR/AR, and smart home appliances, over four days until the 11th.

Along with the exhibition, various side events will be held concurrently, including an opening keynote speech sharing strategies and visions for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, an investment attraction consultation session to expand investment attraction for small and medium-sized ventures, and a seminar on promising technologies.

There were three keynote speeches in total. First, LG Electronics A&B Center Director Lee Sang-yong discussed the changing state of the automobile industry and the direction Korea should take under the topic of “Industry trends and evolutionary direction according to changes in mobility.”

The second speaker, Eunsoo Shim, head of the AI&SW Center at Samsung Electronics' Advanced Institute of Technology, gave a presentation titled "Prospects for the Development of Intelligent Semiconductor Technology." She looked at the current status of intelligent semiconductor technology in line with the spread of AI technology and forecasted its future direction.

Lastly, Jack Wetherill, Senior Analyst at Futuresource Consulting, provided insight into the global home appliance market through a presentation on the current state and future trends of the home appliance market evolving through new technologies such as AI and 5G.


KES 2019 Innovation Award-winning products
A total of 16 products were selected for the KES Innovation Awards, now in its 8th year since 2012, and can be seen in the special exhibition hall.

The new products (BEST NEW Product) section includes ▲Samsung Electronics' Galaxy Fold 5G smartphone ▲LG Electronics' LG Signature OLED R Rollable TV ▲ETRI's cloud integrated storage appliance ▲Innosimulation's 7-degree-of-freedom VR motion simulator and simulation solution ▲KETI's AE-based UVA total of 8 items were selected, including a combination sensor for line, light, and temperature ▲SOS Lab's fixed-mount vehicle lidar ▲Bitsensing's 24GHz camera-integrated traffic radar ▲Penecia's ultra-light smart glass.

In the design (BEST Design) category, a total of 5 items were selected: LG Electronics' Signature Air Conditioner, Samsung Electronics' Bespoke Refrigerator, Home Elec Korea's Wireless Pet Massager, Civillux Korea's Smart Socket, and AI Plus' Smart Home Vegetable Grower. In the content (BEST Content) category, a total of 3 items were selected: Ewon OMS's Smart Mirror, Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST)'s Thought-Controlled Wearable Exoskeleton Robot System, and Virnect's AR Video Communication Remote.
