The Ministry of SMEs and Startups is building an AI manufacturing platform, KAMP.
NHN-KT Consortium as a Private Cloud Operator
Collecting data from small and medium-sized manufacturing companies, analyzing it with AI, and utilizing it.


In accordance with the policy of distributing 30,000 smart factories, small and medium-sized manufacturing companies that have built smart factories are achieving results in productivity increase (up 30%), quality improvement (up 43.5%), cost reduction (down 15.9%), and delivery compliance (up 15.5%).

However, manufacturing data is still confined to individual smart factories and the level of analysis and utilization is low, raising the need for support.

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on the 10th that it has selected the NHN-KT consortium (NHN, KT, T3Q, Ibrab, Scoreinfo, Gyeongnam Technopark) as the private cloud operator to cooperate in building the Korea AI Manufacturing Platform (KAMP) and plans to begin full-scale operations.

On July 23, the government announced plans to establish KAMP through a strategy to advance manufacturing innovation for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) based on AI and data. As a first step, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups held a public contest for private cloud service providers to provide KAMP's infrastructure and services until August 13, and selected the NHN-KT consortium as the final project operator.

The NHN Consortium received high marks for not only leveraging NHN and KT's large-scale infrastructure and stable operational capabilities, but also offering a variety of AI platform services, including Brightics AI, AICentro, T3Q.ai, and AIBLab, to choose from.

Through KAMP, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups plans to establish a foundation for efficient utilization of AI by bringing together data storage and analysis infrastructure, AI experts, and verification services that small and medium-sized manufacturing companies often struggle to acquire.

Going forward, the NHN-KT consortium will provide KAMP with core infrastructure such as large-capacity storage and high-performance computing resources, as well as a platform environment for AI analysis and software development, and support security measures to prevent external hacking and information leaks, as well as technical support for service use.

The government will also collaborate with specialized organizations such as the Smart Manufacturing Innovation Promotion Team and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) to provide expert consulting and field demonstrations to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) solve manufacturing process problems using AI.

Additionally, we plan to develop and expand cloud-based AI smart factories through R&D and smart factory distribution projects.

◇ From the second half of 2020 to 2022 KAMP construction by the first half of the year

To build a manufacturing data system centered on KAMP, the following plan is being implemented in stages.

First, starting in the second half of 2020, we will promote the use of cloud-based manufacturing data and AI.

We provide a high-performance cloud infrastructure service (2PFLOPS performance, 2PB storage) that enables small and medium-sized manufacturing companies to safely store and seamlessly analyze manufacturing data in compliance with international cloud security certifications (CSA STAR) and domestic public sector cloud security certifications (CSAP).

It also provides an AI integrated analysis environment that allows companies to convert their data to the X2MDIS standard, link it to the cloud, and use AI to analyze the data.

Next, starting in the second half of 2021, we will operate a solution store to allow manufacturing companies to select and utilize a variety of AI manufacturing solutions.

For developers, we provide a development environment including manufacturing-specific solution development tools and algorithm libraries, while also supporting research and development so that they can develop solutions based on proven standard models.

Ultimately, we plan to expand the Solution Store's excellent AI manufacturing solutions to small and medium-sized manufacturing companies through the smart factory distribution project.

Finally, starting in the first half of 2022, we will operate a My Manufacturing Data platform that matches manufacturing data producers and users and supports transactions.

Prior to this, the Manufacturing Data Sharing Standard (MDSR) was established to define the definition and scope of manufacturing data, transaction requirements, profit distribution, etc., thereby clarifying the rights relationship between manufacturing data producers, traders, and distributors, thereby promoting the production and use of manufacturing data.

Minister of SMEs and Startups Park Young-sun said, “KAMP supports small and medium-sized manufacturing companies to use AI services at the level of large companies at a low cost.”He said, “Through this, we will open an era of My Manufacturing Data, which utilizes manufacturing data generated in smart factories and returns the profits to data-producing manufacturing companies.”

He also said, “We are currently exchanging opinions with Germany, which is leading the ‘Gaia X Project,’ so that KAMP can link with overseas AI manufacturing platforms in the future.”
