EiceDRIVER X3 Enhanced Version Supporting 3/6/9A Output Current and
Short-Circuit Detection, Miller Clamp, and Soft Turn-Off

Infineon Technologies announced on the 16th the launch of analog (1ED34xx) and digital (1ED38xx) gate driver ICs in the enhanced version of the EiceDRIVER™ X3. The two ICs are characterized by rated output currents of 3A, 6A, and 9A, precise short-circuit detection, Miller clamp, and soft turn-off.

The 1ED34xx allows adjustment of desaturation filter time and soft turn-off current using external resistors. These combined functions reduce the number of external components and shorten development time.

The 1ED38xx enables configuration of multiple parameters via I²C, thereby increasing design flexibility, reducing hardware complexity, and shortening evaluation time. It is suitable for industrial drives, photovoltaic systems, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), electric vehicle (EV) chargers, and other industrial applications.

Both products are designed for IGBTs in discrete or module package form as well as silicon carbide (SiC) and silicon (Si) MOSFETs. With output currents reaching up to 9A, external booster components are not required. CMTI robustness exceeding 200kV/µs prevents faulty switching patterns.

Additionally, they feature an absolute maximum output supply voltage of 40V and propagation delay matching of up to 30ns maximum, which enables reduced dead time. The I²C configuration options of the 1ED38xx include short-circuit detection, soft turn-off, under-voltage lockout (UVLO), Miller clamp, and over-temperature shutdown. Two-level turn-off (TLTOff) is also possible through software settings.

The 1ED34xx and 1ED38xx gate drivers are offered in a compact DSO-16 fine-pitch package providing 8mm creepage distance. Both products are certified to UL 1577 at 5.7kVRMS, ensuring application safety through precise threshold values and timing. Currently available for order, Infineon provides the EVAL-1ED3491MX12M evaluation board.
