KETI signs MOU with Prague Technical University, Czech Republic, on AI and other areas.

The Czech Republic will accelerate the development of AI and autonomous driving starting in 2019.


The Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) announced on the 19th that it signed a memorandum of understanding with the Czech Technical University in Prague to discuss the exchange of personnel and information in the fields of AI and autonomous driving technology, as well as the promotion of international joint technology development.

This agreement was signed in the presence of Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Moon Seung-wook and Czech Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlicek, who were visiting the Czech Republic. On that day, the two countries' Ministers of Industry and Trade also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen cooperation in nuclear power and advanced industries.

Founded in 1707, Prague Technical University is the Czech Republic's premier technical university. It boasts eight faculties, including Information Technology, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Nuclear Science, and Physical Engineering. It also conducts industry-academic R&D collaborations with companies like Cisco, IBM, Siemens, and NVIDIA.

The Czech Republic announced its national AI strategy in 2019 and is working to strengthen its industrial technology competitiveness, focusing on institutions such as Prague Technical University. Additionally, the government is pursuing policies from 2019 to 2030 to establish a value chain encompassing basic domestic R&D investment and final finished product production, by establishing nine innovation axes, including digital transformation in manufacturing and smart mobility infrastructure.

Plans for electric vehicles, autonomous driving, and digitalization were already established in 2017.

KETI has been pursuing R&D cooperation with the Czech Republic since 2015, and with this MoU, it will expand international cooperation in cutting-edge technologies such as AI and autonomous driving, where R&D support is expected to increase, thereby supporting the Czech Republic's industrial digital transformation.

KETI President Kim Young-sam said, “Through this MOU, we hope to discover international joint R&D projects involving companies from both countries, thereby contributing to strengthening the industrial technology competitiveness of both Korea and the Czech Republic.” He added, “We will pursue cooperation not only for digital transformation and carbon neutrality, which are being emphasized as common global tasks in the post-COVID era, but also for AI and autonomous driving.”
