TSMC has reportedly submitted a response to the U.S. Department of Commerce's request for semiconductor supply chain information, and South Korean companies such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are also expected to submit reports within a limited scope.

According to a U.S. government website, semiconductor companies including TSMC, Micron Technology, Western Digital, and United Microelectronics submitted reports ahead of the deadline on Monday, November 8.

In relation to this, a U.S. government official also reported through the U.S. media that they expect Korean companies such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix to voluntarily submit relevant information ahead of the deadline.

It is known that the report submitted by TSMC this time omits most of the key information that constitutes trade secrets.

In relation to this, a TSMC official said in an interview with the press, “We are doing our best to protect our customers’ confidential information.”

Accordingly, domestic companies such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are expected to submit reports excluding key data, similar to TSMC.

Last September, the U.S. Department of Commerce asked companies in the semiconductor supply chain to complete a questionnaire seeking information about the ongoing chip shortage.

The request is voluntary, but Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo has warned industry representatives that she could invoke the Defense Production Act or other regulations to force submissions if the White House does not respond.

Washington's request has raised concerns in Taiwan and South Korea, with some There have been concerns that the US is demanding that companies hand over trade secrets.

There are also concerns in China that the US could use data provided by TSMC and others to sanction Chinese companies.

The questionnaire reportedly asked chip manufacturers to describe their inventory, backlogs, delivery times, procurement practices, and what they are doing to increase production. It also reportedly requested information on each product's top customers.
