Intel and Broadcom today unveiled the industry's first cross-vendor Wi-Fi 7 demonstration, delivering wireless speeds exceeding 5 gigabits per second. The demonstration featured an Intel processor-based laptop equipped with a Wi-Fi 7 solution connected to a Broadcom Wi-Fi 7 access point (AP).

The market demands faster speeds, lower latency, improved reliability, and greater capacity. Wi-Fi 7 addresses these demands with new features, including: up to 320 MHz of bandwidth in the 6 GHz spectrum; 4K QAM coordination; simultaneous multi-bandwidth connections based on multi-link operation; and efficient bandwidth utilization based on Multi-Resource Unit functionality.

Industry collaboration is essential to realizing the new possibilities presented by Wi-Fi 7. Broadcom reportedly provided technical support in preparing this industry-first ultra-high-speed, ultra-low-latency Wi-Fi 7 demonstration.

This demonstration demonstrates that Wi-Fi 7 offers significant capacity and speed for gigabit broadband expansion and is ready for the associated ecosystem, Broadcom officials said. Broadcom's vision is to deliver immersive experiences through the Internet, focusing on connecting everything.

“Wi-Fi 7 is the most powerful and capable Wi-Fi protocol ever and will continue to support the most demanding applications in consumer and vertical markets that require the highest levels of performance,” said Phil Solis, research director for connectivity at IDC. “The interoperability testing between Intel and Broadcom will enable the development of products that can be used in the test bed for official Wi-Fi Alliance certification.”
