“It will take 10 more years to realize the metaverse”... Next-generation form factor innovation is necessary

“The metaverse will take at least 10 years to realize with current technology. Super-large AI and generative AI will play a key role in the metaverse.”
Huh Wook, Vice President of Foreign Policy at Meta Korea, commented on the current metaverse and rapidly developing AI technology.
On the 14th, the 'XR Latest Technology Trend Seminar' was held at the Gyeonggi XR Center. Vice President Heo Wook of Meta Korea participated as a speaker and presented Meta's metaverse vision and trends in AI, which the company is currently focusing on investing in.
The metaverse that Meta refers to refers to technology that provides an experience of entering or belonging to information. Currently, there is a limitation that it can only be limited to two-dimensional forms such as smartphones or PCs. There are some steps to strengthen spatial computing by releasing a number of VR devices, but in reality, the general consumer response is minimal.
When asked why he is looking so far ahead to realize the metaverse, Vice President Huh Wook said that the inconvenient form factor is a factor. He evaluated the current situation, saying, “I think that as devices evolve, the number of users will increase, user experiences will expand, and various use cases will increase.”
In this process, the power of AI is expected to ultimately become a tool that can create a creator ecosystem and infinitely increase content creation capabilities by utilizing LLM and generative AI models.
Meta sees creators as the core of the metaverse, and expects that the barriers to content production in various fields such as games, movies, graphics, and images will be lowered, and this will form the metaverse. In addition, it was revealed that it is being utilized to improve user experience through AI, such as △customized advertising, △blocking harmful content, and △recommending appropriate content.
At the upcoming Meta Connect 2023, Meta will be officially announcing its new VR device, the Quest 3, which is expected to be released next month.
At this time, attention is being paid to what Meta's vision for the future of the metaverse and AI is, and whether we can see traces of its concerns about hardware improvements.
