SK Hynix's 'LPDDR5T' DRAM has been commercialized and is being installed in the latest smartphones along with MediaTek's 'Dimensity 9300'.

SK Hynix announced on the 13th that it has started supplying 16GB (gigabyte) packages of 'LPDDR5T (Low Power Double Data Rate 5 Turbo),' the fastest mobile DRAM currently available, capable of transmitting 9.6Gb (gigabit) of data per second, to customers.

LPDDR is a DRAM standard for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. Its designation minimizes power consumption and features low-voltage operation. The standard designation is suffixed with LP (Low Power), and the latest standard is LPDDR 7th generation (5X), developed in the following order: 1-2-3-4-4X-5-5X. LPDDR5T is the version first developed by SK Hynix, and is a product that upgrades the performance of the 7th generation LPDDR5X before the 8th generation LPDDR6 was officially released to the industry.

SK Hynix has been preparing for product commercialization by conducting performance verification with global mobile AP (Application Processor) companies since its successful development of LPDDR5T in January.

An SK Hynix official emphasized, “LPDDR5T, which has achieved the fastest speed ever, is the optimal memory that can maximize the performance of smartphones,” and “We will lead the generational change of mobile DRAM by expanding the scope of application of this product in the future.”

The LPDDR5T 16GB package operates within the minimum voltage range of 1.01 to 1.12V (volts) defined by the Joint Electron Device Engineering Council (JEDEC). Furthermore, the package has a data processing speed of 77GB per second, equivalent to processing 15 full-HD movies per second.

The company recently began supplying this product to global smartphone manufacturer Vivo. Vivo announced on the same day that it would be launching its latest flagship smartphones, the 'X100' and 'X100 Pro', equipped with SK Hynix's latest memory packages.

This smartphone is equipped with MediaTek's top-of-the-line mobile AP product, 'Dimensity 9300', along with LPDDR5T. Previously, SK Hynix announced that it had successfully completed performance verification using LPDDR5T in MediaTek's mobile AP in August.

SK Hynix Vice President Park Myeong-su (DRAM Marketing) said, “As the AI era begins in earnest, smartphones are emerging as essential devices that implement on-device AI technology,” and “Accordingly, demand for high-performance, high-capacity mobile DRAM is increasing in the mobile market.”

Vice President Park added, “While we are closely monitoring market demand, we will continue to lead the premium DRAM market based on our technological leadership in AI memory.”
