Market research firm MARKETSANDMARKETS forecasts that the Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) market will grow at an annual rate of 9.1% and reach a size of over $419 billion by 2028.

The core of SDV is value creation through continuous software updates, and the service provision through this is expected to generate added value and sales, and also influence the business models of OEMs and suppliers.

SDVs, which are software-driven vehicles, can have a positive impact on driver automation systems (autonomous driving systems) by improving driver convenience, safety, and efficient battery use.

In this way, SDV, which is evolving beyond simple in-vehicle systems to connectivity and autonomous driving, is being developed in a way that provides services by downloading applications from IT-Backend services.

Additionally, current automakers are demonstrating their will to avoid being encroached upon by ICT companies, as in the smartphone OS market, through their own proprietary OS.

This is also why Hyundai Motor Company is actively pursuing talent acquisition after acquiring Forty Two Dot.

Regarding this direction, Kim Eui-yeol, head of the business division, said at 'Vector Tech Day 2023' held in August, "Korean OEMs are planning to develop many functions in their vehicles on their own, but German companies that tried similar things have failed." He added, "I expect that Korean OEMs will also go through various processes and find a way to coexist with suppliers."

Since it is not yet evaluated as having achieved hegemony, the existing ICThe battle for position between T companies and automakers is expected to continue.
