Expanding CAN FD Solution Industry Analytical Capabilities with Teledyne LeCroy's New Measurement and Graphic Specifications
November 26, 2014 – Teledyne LeCroy (Country Manager Woon-jae Lee , http://teledynelecroy.co.kr ) announced today the addition of special measurement and graphing capabilities to its CAN FD (Flexible Data Rate) Trigger and Decode Solution. Teledyne LeCroy is not only the only provider of CAN FD measurement and graphic specifications, but also announced the first CAN FD Trigger and Decode Solution in June of this year. The CAN FD Trigger and Decode Solution enables developers using this new standard to understand and analyze systems under development by observing the correlation between physical layer signals and protocol layer data on a single display. The tool features the ability to measure the time between two CAN or CAN FD messages, or the time from a message to an analog signal. Using the measurement capabilities included in this tool, information contained within a message can be deconstructed back into an analog waveform.
The CAN FD TDM link is designed for robust CAN FD timing and dedicated CAN FD triggering of message data values. CAN FD triggers can identify and separate Frame IDs, specific data packets, remote frames, and error frames. Decoding overlays different colored sections of the captured data onto the waveform to easily distinguish and define them, allowing users to quickly locate and verify distinct parts of the CAN FD data. The new CAN FD TDM provides specific CAN FD measurement parameters for the rapid and easy accumulation of statistical data from various events, as well as graphic display tools for data visualization.
Teledyne LeCroy's CAN FD solution can decode four buses simultaneously, offering the advantage of being able to decode any combination of protocols, including CAN FD and conventional CAN. The decode results are also provided in a table to aid user understanding. Selecting and touching a table entry automatically zooms in, eliminating the inconvenience of having to manually scroll through waveform data. Furthermore, to make data retrieval easier, a search function is embedded in the zoomed trace, allowing users to quickly locate specific Frame IDs or data messages.
Leading automotive test solutions since 2004
Since introducing its first CAN trigger and decode products in 2004, Teledyne LeCroy has been a leader in oscilloscope-based serial data trigger and decode solutions. Patented algorithms that analyze physical layer serial data signals and display decoded results have been applied to simplify the design and debugging of automotive systems using LIN, FlexRay, and the new CAN FD. In addition to supporting automotive standards, Teledyne LeCroy provides trigger and decode solutions for a wide range of serial buses, including I2C, UART, USB3, and PCIe® Gen 3.
What is CAN FD (Flexible Data)?
CAN FD is the next-generation technology of the universal CAN standard. While existing CAN has reached the limit of its transmittable bandwidth speed, CAN FD provides higher bit rates and longer data payloads. CAN FD data payloads consist of 64 bytes per frame, whereas existing CAN is 8 bytes per frame.
utilization
CAN FD triggers and decodes are available on various Teledyne LeCroy oscilloscopes. Teledyne LeCroy users with existing CAN trigger and decode options can upgrade their system to CAN FD trigger and decode software.
