April 8, 2015, Seoul, South Korea – Maxim Integrated (www.maximintegrated.com), a global leader in the highly integrated analog and mixed-signal semiconductor market, announced the release of the MAX24040, a DC-coupled laser driver for high-performance interface 40Gbps QSFP (Quad Small Form-Factor Pluggable) optical modules used in computing and telecommunications applications. The proprietary digital eye tuning provides two channels in a single ultra-small package, reducing production costs and shortening the time to market for QSFP+ optical modules.

QSFP optical modules for data centers and data communication networks require high flexibility, low power, and rapid design as they must provide 40Gbps data over a single link of fiber optic cable.

Optimized for 40Gbps QSFP+LR4 modules in data centers, the MAX24040 is an 11.3Gbps ultra-low power, dual-channel laser driver operating at 290mW per channel including laser current, and is the industry's first and only solution to achieve total module power consumption of less than 2W.

The two laser drivers provided in a compact package include digital eye tuning, enabling easy driver performance optimization and saving design time. The MAX24040 targets long-range LR4 modules required for hyperscale data centers and operates in environments ranging from -40°C to +95°C. Applications include Class 2 and 3 40GBASE-LR4, PSM4, and ER4 QSFP+ optical transceivers. The MAX24040 is available immediately in an ultra-small 3.5mm x 5.5mm package.
