June 24, 2015, Seoul – NXP Semiconductors (NASDAQ: NXPI), a leader in Near Field Communication (NFC) solutions, announced the PN7120, a solution designed to accelerate the adoption of NFC in the Internet of Things (IoT). The highly integrated PN7120 enables the creation of innovative NFC solutions. In particular, it allows for the rapid development of new applications and use cases that connect various devices and consumer electronics, such as home network gateways, routers, set-top boxes, audio devices, printers, and game consoles, to IoT and smart homes.

Currently, numerous smart home devices are based on Linux and Android. This integrated solution includes all RF communication protocols for NFC, the NFC Controller Interface (NCI), and Linux and Android drivers for easy development. When the PN7120 is combined with a TV, it can be easily paired with a router, enabling new uses beyond traditional TV usage, such as personalized access, video-on-demand (VOD) payments, maintenance, and commissioning.

The PN7120 is equipped with an NFC contactless reader IC and built-in firmware that integrates NFC-related communication protocols. This solution is optimized for Linux and Android via included drivers and software, and can be easily integrated with any embedded operating system. The PN7120 uses the standard NFC Controller Interface (NCI), which is continuously maintained by the NFC Forum, for rapid integration with the system main controller. The PN7120 comes with interface boards for the latest Raspberry Pi, which are standard equipment for developers, as well as Single Board Computer Demo Kits such as the BeagleBone.
