ETRI (Korea Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, President Kim Heung-nam) announced that its research team was selected as an Editor for the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), an international standardization organization for web technology, and that it has begun full-scale development on two standard recommendations.

Being selected as an editor at an international standardization meeting means that the first step has been taken toward the related technology becoming an international standard in the future.

This achievement by ETRI was led by Dr. Wonseok Lee (42, pictured ) of the Service Convergence Research Laboratory, and the details were released through the W3C website.

ETRI stated that Dr. Lee has secured editorship for two draft standards, including 'Application Programming Interface (API) for Accessing Vehicle Information' and 'Vehicle Data Interface'.

It is highly significant that an editor from ETRI has emerged in the first working group established by the W3C, which leads international web standards including next-generation web standards (HTML5), to lead standardization with an interest in automobiles.

The research institute stated that this achievement marks ETRI's leadership in developing international standards in the field of "web-based connected cars," one of the core technologies of next-generation ICT.
