July 15, 2015, Seoul – NXP Semiconductors (NASDAQ: NXPI) announced the industry's most complete USB Type-C solution. This solution includes authentication and power delivery capabilities and provides secure connectivity for a smarter world. The authentication functions can be used to verify authorization for a device and determine whether specific device functions should be executed. This not only ensures the maximum lifespan of the device being charged but also prevents safety risks and equipment damage caused by low-quality or incompatible products. For example, it can detect counterfeit power supplies before they are used for fast charging.

As the USB Type-C connector becomes increasingly popular, it is expected to become the new standard for device connectivity. New USB Type-C connector and cable technology, providing data transfer speeds of up to 10Gbps and 100 watts of power, is meeting increasing demand in computing, mobile, and consumer products.

The Type-C connector, an improvement over existing Type-A and Type-B USB connectors, is designed to be more user-friendly by providing plugs and cables that can be used regardless of orientation and enabling the simultaneous transmission of power and data. It also supports various protocols such as DisplayPort, MHL, and Thunderbolt. Because power flows bidirectionally, devices can both supply and consume power. Furthermore, the Type-C connector offers power solutions that can scale from 0.5 amperes and 5.0 volts for portable devices to 5.0 amperes and 20 volts for fast charging and power delivery.
