Kyungsung University Wins Grand Prize for 'Smart Toy Development Using Tiva C Series'

TI Korea (CEO Kent Jeon) held the final judging and awards ceremony for the 6th 'Texas Instruments Innovation Challenge (TIIC): Korean MCU Design Contest 2015' on Friday, the 20th.

Applications for this contest were accepted for approximately two months from May 20 to July 17, and around 70 teams comprising about 230 undergraduate and graduate students in science and engineering from across the country submitted original ideas utilizing TI MCUs. Among these, 10 teams were selected through a preliminary screening to compete in the final round through paper presentations and project demonstrations.

At this awards ceremony, attended by key executives from TI Korea, a judging panel composed of expert engineers from TI Korea focused on evaluating the usability of the TI MCU, the originality and completeness of the design, practicality, and the usability of the applied products.

In this contest, the Grand Prize (Chairman's Award) was awarded to Kyungsung University for their presentation on 'Development of a Smart Toy Using the Tiva C Series'. The grand prize winner was awarded 3 million won, and two teams were selected for the top prize, three teams for the excellence prize, and four teams for the encouragement prize, receiving 1.5 million won, 1 million won, and 500,000 won respectively.

Kent Jeon, CEO of TI Korea, who attended the awards ceremony that day, said, “I would like to express my gratitude for the passion of the university and graduate students who participated in this contest, and I would like to congratulate the 10 teams that advanced to the final round. All participating teams, including the 10 teams in the final round, presented surprisingly fresh ideas and successfully implemented them.”

TI Korea stated, “We will continue to support and encourage talents who will lead the future in this way.”

TI Korea has been hosting the 'DSP Design Contest' since 1993 to expand the foundation for domestic electronic product development and foster future talent who will become key players in the global semiconductor market. Since 2010, it has been holding the design contest annually under the name TIIC. In addition, TI Korea has installed MCU, DSP, MPU, and Analog Labs at over 120 universities nationwide to support student research utilizing TI's innovative technologies and to provide educational materials.
