Silicon Labs Acquires Zigbee Module Company Telegesys

Silicon Labs announced that it has acquired Telegesis, a company specializing in wireless mesh networking modules based on its market-leading ZigBee® technology. Founded in 1998, Telegesis is a privately held company based near London.
Based on strong momentum in the smart energy market, Telegesys has established itself as a Zigbee specialist and supplies Zigbee module solutions to numerous key smart metering manufacturers worldwide.
Through this strategic acquisition, Silicon Labs has not only strengthened its roadmap for Zigbee and Thread-ready modules but also provides comprehensive mesh networking solutions ranging from wireless system-on-chip (SoC) products supported by the 802.15.4 software stack and development tools to plug-and-play modules.
The telegesis module includes an antenna and provides a pre-certified RF design that reduces certification costs and compliance efforts, and accelerates time-to-market. Because the client company reuses the entire software with minimal system redesign, it can easily transition from modules to cost-effective SoC-based designs in the future.
A compound growth rate of 24.6 percent is forecast through 2019.
Telegesys exclusively uses Silicon Labs' ZigBee technology in module products deployed in smart meters, USB adapters, and gateways for smart energy applications. Additional target applications include home automation, connected lighting, security, and industrial automation. These modules come with the EmberZNet PRO ZigBee protocol stack, which has been rigorously tested and field-validated by Silicon Labs.
The EmberZNet PRO ZigBee protocol stack has established the standard for ZigBee stack reliability and has been applied to more wirelessly interconnected products than other ZigBee PRO stacks. Telegesys also provides comprehensive development and evaluation kits to help developers simplify ZigBee-based applications.
James Stansberry, Senior Manager of IoT Products at Silicon Labs, said, “The combination of the Telegesys module, Silicon Labs’ mesh networking SoC, industry-leading 802.15.4 software stack, and easy-to-use wireless development tools provides a complete transition path for customers when moving from modules to SoCs or from Zigbee to thread-based networks.”
Telegesys' leadership in the Zigbee module market complements Silicon Labs' 11 years of experience in developing, verifying, and supplying standards-based mesh networking solutions. As a strategic partner, both companies share a deep understanding of 802.15.4 mesh networking technology as well as certification procedures. Zigbee module shipments are projected to show a compound growth rate of 24.6 percent from now until 2019.

Databricks Unveils Open AI Security Monitoring 'Lakewatch'
Databricks entered the security market on March 24 by unveiling LakeWatch, an open-source agentic SIEM. The core functionality of this product is to integrate and analyze security, IT, and business data in a single environment to support AI-based threat detection and investigation. The company explained that it reduces the limitations of existing security operations centers, which have had to forgo some data due to high cost structures, and enables large-scale data analysis and automation based on open formats and ecosystems. LakeWatch is currently offered as a private preview, with Adobe and Dropbox mentioned as early customers. Databricks also announced an expanded partnership with Anthropic as well as the acquisition of Antimatter and SiftD.ai.
