Samsung Electronics supports control and interoperability technologies for smart home appliances and provides KT's Giga IoT Home service.

KT and Samsung Electronics have joined forces to expand the 'Home IoT (Internet of Things)'.

KT announced on the 17th that it will provide 'GiGA IoT Home' (hereinafter 'GiGA IoT Home'), which links with Samsung Electronics home appliances, in partnership with Samsung Electronics, within this year.

Through this collaboration project, Samsung Electronics supports control and interoperability technologies for smart home appliances, and KT provides Giga IoT Home services utilizing these technologies. To this end, the two companies have completed development by linking their respective platforms (KT's Giga IoT Home platform and Samsung Electronics' home appliance server) to enable compatibility through an access point (AP) via a user's home Wi-Fi connection.

Last month, KT launched 'olleh GiGA IoT Home Manager,' which allows users to check the status of household devices such as digital door locks and control them remotely through a smartphone app.

Through this collaboration with Samsung Electronics, 'Olleh GiGA IoT Home Manager' will be able to manage and remotely control six types of Samsung Electronics home appliances. KT explained, “Two types of services, including air conditioners and air purifiers, will be launched first within this year,” adding, “Four types of services, including washing machines, refrigerators, robot vacuums, and ovens, will be added early next year.”

Customers who have a Samsung Smart Home account and have purchased home appliances at online or offline stores, such as Samsung Electronics Plaza, can sign up for the 'Olleh GiGA IoT Home Manager' service. Subsequently, they can use 'GiGA IoT Home' by adding their existing Samsung appliances. KT plans to launch a service in the future that automatically controls various IoT household devices based on customers' lifestyles. Furthermore, the two companies intend to conduct joint marketing through close collaboration.

Kim Geun-young, Senior Vice President of KT’s IoT Business Development, stated, “Through this home IoT business cooperation between KT and Samsung Electronics, we are able to introduce convenient and differentiated services that converge home appliances and telecommunications.” He expressed his expectation for “synergy between the two companies in the home IoT sector, including the future expansion of product lineups.” Lee Yun-cheol, Senior Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ Home Appliances Business, emphasized, “When Samsung smart appliances are connected with telecommunications carriers’ home services, customers will be able to access IoT services more easily,” adding, “Through this, we will continue to expand cooperation between Samsung’s IoT appliance products and telecommunications services.”
