High efficiency 60V, 4A for negative output voltage supply

Linear Technology Korea (CEO Hong Sa-kwak) announced the release of a high-efficiency 60V, 4A synchronous buck regulator (product name: LTC7149) for supplying negative output voltage.

This product integrates a current mode architecture with internal or external loop compensation functions for user selection, and an output voltage function programmed by a single external resistor. The LTC7149 operates over an input voltage range of 3.4V to 60V and provides a continuous output current of up to 4A, while offering an adjustable output voltage of 0V to –28V.
The wide input and output voltage range of this product makes it ideal for a wide range of test, instrumentation, and industrial applications. The LTC7149's proprietary design includes a precisely internally generated 50µA current source at the ISET pin; this feature enables the product to provide output voltages as low as –28V using only a single external programmable resistor. Furthermore, the LTC7149 provides ±0.8% output voltage accuracy.

The switching frequency of this product can be programmed to the user in the range of 300kHz to 3MHz, and small, low-cost capacitors and inductors can be used. Combined with a 28-pin 4mm x 5mm QFN or thermally enhanced TSSOP package, this product provides a very compact solution footprint.

The LTC7149 incorporates switches with RDS(ON) values of 110 milliohms and 50 milliohms to provide high efficiency of up to 92%. Burst Mode® operation offers high efficiency under light loads and requires a standby current of only 440µA. For noise-sensitive applications, the LTC7149 can operate in forced continuous mode, providing very low output ripple.

This product includes a ground reference clock and a PGOOD pin, eliminating the need for a separate level shifter. Additionally, it provides a Power Good voltage monitor, programmable wire drop compensation, external synchronization performance, and thermal protection.

The LTC7149EUFD is available in a 4mm x 5mm QFN-28, and the LTC7149EFE is provided in a 28-pin thermally enhanced TSSOP package. The industrial-grade versions, LTC7149IUFD and LTC7149IFE, guarantee operation over an operating temperature range of –40°C to 125°C. Pricing starts at $5.65 per unit for 1,000-piece quantities.
