National Instruments (NI), a test, measurement, and control solutions company, has released the latest version of NI InsightCM Enterprise, a software solution for online condition monitoring.

NI stated that through this solution, companies can effectively reduce operating costs by monitoring on-site fault diagnosis and issues in real-time online.


NI IIoT technology platforms such as NI InsightCM, DIAdem, and CompactRIO include capabilities for distributed sensor measurements, edge processing, analytics, open communication, and data management. These features support the resolution of big analog data challenges by filtering vast amounts of data to deliver useful information to relevant experts at the right time.

The case of Duke Energy, a U.S. power company, demonstrates the effectiveness of NI InsightCM. Duke Energy, which needed new monitoring technology to effectively manage critical equipment at the end of its life and new desulfurization gas plants experiencing serious failures, effectively reduced operating costs by implementing the Smart M&D (Measurement & Diagnostic) project using NI CompactRIO hardware and NI InsightCM software to monitor 60 plants, 1,000 pieces of equipment, and 30,000 sensors online for real-time analysis.

Bernie Cook, Director at Duke Energy, stated, “InsightCM was easy to integrate with third-party hardware or existing monitoring systems, and it has the strength of expanding newly created channels by drastically lowering maintenance costs through easy license management. Above all, I consider the biggest success of this project to be that vibration analysts are no longer focused on acquiring sensor data, but can now analyze and improve the data and build know-how for field management.”
