Global semiconductor manufacturing equipment shipments in the first quarter fell 13% year-on-year
Published2016.06.08 10:53The Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI) announced that global semiconductor manufacturing equipment shipments in the first quarter of 2016 amounted to $8.3 billion.
This figure represents a 3% increase from the fourth quarter of 2015 and a 13% decrease from the first quarter of 2015. SEMI compiles the report in collaboration with the Semiconductor Equipment Association of Japan (SEAJ) by collecting data provided monthly by more than 95 global equipment manufacturers.
Global equipment orders in the first quarter of 2016 amounted to $9.4 billion, down 2% from the first quarter of 2015 and up 5% from the previous quarter (fourth quarter of 2015).
▲ The table is displayed in US dollars (unit: billion dollars) and shows quarterly shipments by region, growth rates compared to the previous quarter, and growth rates compared to the same period of the previous year.

The Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI) announced in its World Semiconductor Equipment and Materials Statistics (WWSEMS) report that global semiconductor manufacturing equipment sales reached $35.65 billion in 2015, declining 3% year-over-year. Total equipment orders in 2015 fell 5% compared to 2014.

According to the April BB ratio report released by the Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI), North American semiconductor equipment manufacturers' bookings (3-month average) for April 2016 were $1.59 billion, with a BB ratio of 1.10. The BB ratio is calculated by dividing bookings by billings, meaning a BB ratio of 1.10 indicates bookings of $110 per $100 of billings. April bookings of $1.59 billion increased 15.6% compared to March bookings of $1.38 billion, and rose 1.3% compared to April bookings of $1.57 billion in the previous year. April semiconductor equipment billings were $1.46 billion, up 21.5% from March billings of $1.20 billion, and down 4% from April billings of $1.52 billion in the previous year.
