Launch of Next-Generation Voice Remote Control Solution
One-stop shopping for remote control technology

TI (CEO Kent Tran) announced that it is adding new voice remote control solutions to its SimpleLink™ ultra-low power platform.

With these solutions, developers can easily add ultra-low power Bluetooth Low Energy, ZigBee® RF4CE™, and multi-standard connectivity to voice remote controls, TVs, set-top boxes, and more. For more information about the solutions, please refer to the website (www.ti.com/rc).

TI’s new SimpleLink ZigBee RF4CE CC2620 wireless microcontroller (MCU), Bluetooth Low Energy CC2640 wireless MCU, and multi-standard CC2650 solution enable the development of remote controls with various functions. Furthermore, by leveraging the ultra-low power characteristics of these MCUs, more functions can be implemented with less power. Engineers can reuse R&D investments across various standards and products, and developers can differentiate their products by utilizing modern features such as voice commands, search, gesture recognition, and pointing without compromising battery life.

The “all-in-one” SimpleLink multi-standard CC2650 remote control development kit (CC2650RC) provided by TI facilitates the development of Bluetooth Low Energy and RF4CE remote controls. This development kit can extend functionality by connecting to DevPack plug-in modules from the SimpleLink SensorTag ecosystem. This development kit and ecosystem, the new BLE-Stack 2.2 and RemoTI™ 2.0 software, and additional resources to help with design are also available on the website.

Developers can use the MSP430FR2633 MCU with CapTIvate technology to add features such as gesture pads, capacitive buttons, sliders, and grip detection to remote designs while operating with an average current of less than 4μA.


These wireless MCU products of the SimpleLink ultra-low power platform integrate an ARM Cortex®-M3 core for ultra-low power multi-standard wireless, a direct microphone interface, up to 31 GPIOs, a sensor controller, and more in a single package ranging from 4x4mm to 7x7mm.

In this way, by enhancing functional integration and providing various size options, developers can utilize RF4CE, Bluetooth Low Energy, and multi-standard connectivity solutions not only for existing TV and set-top box remotes but also to implement voice functions in various applications such as wearables, building automation, and automobiles. Furthermore, this technology enables not only the standard control of home appliances or TVs but also features that allow users to search for or record their favorite TV programs by voice, control lighting, or input text using voice.
