Release of Optimized Additive Manufacturing Software for Metal Parts
Integration of the additive manufacturing process from part design to 3D printing

Siemens announced that it has entered into a new partnership with TRUMPF, a specialized manufacturer of laser systems.

Through this partnership, the two companies plan to cooperate to industrialize laser metal fusion technology and develop additive manufacturing into a core process for producing metal parts.

Currently, Siemens and Trumpf are collaborating to combine their respective expertise to develop software solutions necessary for the design and preparation of 3D-printed metal parts. The two companies plan to streamline the entire powder-bed-based Laser Metal Fusion process for Trumpf's printing machines by integrating it into Siemens' NX software. This solution, which integrates TRUMPF build processor technology, is intended to be used for part design and engineering for additive manufacturing and 3D print preparation.

Tony Hemmelgarn, President and CEO of Siemens PLM Software, said, “The newly introduced integrated solution from both companies will provide customers with a high level of process stability by applying smart product models across every stage of the entire process. It is characterized by the fact that data conversion is not required by integrating metal part design, simulation, 3D printing, and NC programming tools into a single system.”

Peter Leibinger, President of Trumpf’s Laser Technology/Electronics Division, explained, “The aforementioned features are a decisive factor in making additive manufacturing a realistic proposition for industrial applications. By bringing about optimal interaction between machines and software, this partnership enables customers to implement optimized designs for additive manufacturing and strengthen their competitiveness based on this.”

This solution integrates the TRUMPF build processor with the NX software technology for additive manufacturing recently announced by Siemens and is scheduled to be sold with TRUMPF TruPrint Laser Metal Fusion printers. This new software provides a standardized user interface across the end-to-end additive manufacturing process. The entire digital process chain can be effectively handled within a single, integrated associative software environment, eliminating the need to use separate applications for part design and data preparation. This software package, TruTops Print with NX, is a solution that combines all essential functions for producing laser metal fusion parts via additive manufacturing and is applied and operated on Trumpf printing machines.
