KT and Korean Gas Station Association Launch Electric Vehicle Charging Station Installation
Published2017.02.08 18:00KT and the Korean Gas Station Association announced the conclusion of a business agreement regarding "nationwide gas station electric vehicle charging infrastructure construction" to facilitate the expansion of electric vehicle adoption.
Under this business agreement, fixed-type fast electric vehicle chargers will be installed at gas stations affiliated with the Korean Gas Station Association starting from the first half of this year.
The industry anticipates that electric vehicle drivers will be able to use paid electric vehicle charging services at gas stations going forward, which is expected to help accelerate electric vehicle adoption. Going forward, based on KT's energy ICT business capabilities, there are plans to jointly pursue new business model development and market entry for gas station association member companies.
Kim Young-myung, Head of KT's Smart Energy Business Division, stated, "With this agreement, we expect the shortage of charging stations, which has been a major obstacle to electric vehicle adoption, to be resolved."

Infineon Supports Global Standards for Electric Vehicles
Infineon is participating in CharIN (Charging Interface Initiative e.V.), an international electric vehicle charging association that supports global standardization of hybrid and electric vehicle charging infrastructure. CharIN's objective is to develop, establish, and promote global standards for charging systems for all types of battery-powered electric vehicles. It is composed of major automotive manufacturers as founding members.

ST Joins CharIN, an Open Association for EV Combo Charging Systems
CharIN (Charging Interface Initiative e.V.) and STMicroelectronics (hereinafter ST) have announced ST's membership in CharIN. ST, equipped with automotive and security microcontroller portfolios, sensing technologies, advanced power technologies such as SiC (Silicon Carbide), and secure connectivity expertise, stated that it will provide CharIN with sophisticated, secure, and user-friendly interfaces necessary for hybrid and electric vehicle (HEV/EV) charging.

Will KT Chairman Hwang Chang-gyu, reappointed, be empowered to pursue new strategies?
KT held a '2017 New Year Strategy Workshop' at its headquarters in Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi Province on the 3rd. At this event, Chairman Hwang Chang-gyu presented a blueprint for 'Phase 2 Management' in front of approximately 500 key executives and employees. Currently, KT's non-telecom business revenue accounts for 10% of total sales. European Patent Applications Surpass 200,000 for the First Time… South Korea Maintains 5th Place, Led by Batteries and Telecommunications
According to the European Patent Office (EPO)'s 'Technology Dashboard 2025', European patent applications last year reached 201,974, surpassing 200,000 for the first time. Korean companies and inventors filed 14,355 applications, representing a 9.5% increase from the previous year and maintaining 5th place by country. Battery, digital communication, and semiconductor technologies led the growth, with Samsung ranking as the top EPO applicant for the second consecutive year and LG reaching 3rd place. The presence of major domestic cities such as Seoul, Suwon, and Yongin was also confirmed. It was also revealed that Korea's European patent strategy is expanding beyond individual technologies to span the entire industry.
