In the future, consumers will be able to use the platform to check the safety of agricultural products.

KT announced on the 23rd that it will present the IoT big data sharing platform 'GS1 Agri-Food Information' as part of the 'Global System for Mobile Communications IDE Project' at MWC 2017, which will be held in Barcelona, Spain for four days from February 27th to March 2nd.

The 'GSMA IoT Data Ecosystem (IDE) Project' aims to create a platform structure for exchanging IoT data and standardize it so that it can be directly applied to various industrial fields. Six global mobile operators are participating, including KT, Orange, Telefonica (SA), and China Mobile.

At this year's MWC 2017, the 'Global System for Mobile Communications Association IDE Project' will unveil the 'IoT Big Data API Directory' solution, which shares standardized IoT big data in the fields of machinery, automobiles, roads, environment, smart homes, and agriculture.

KT will take charge of the agricultural sector and introduce the 'GS1 Agricultural and Food Information' platform.

The GS1 Agricultural and Food Information Platform combines IoT big data generated during the production and distribution of agricultural and food products, including information on cultivation processes, distribution status, and agricultural product source certification, with GS1 codes (the international standard identification code) to create standardized information. This standardized information is shared through a portal and can be utilized by producers, consumers, app developers, and others.

KT is also unveiling an agricultural product traceability information solution that utilizes the GS1 agricultural and food information platform to provide consumers with information that allows them to determine whether their selected agricultural and food products are safe.

The agricultural product traceability solution, developed by KT, allows consumers to scan the barcode attached to agricultural products using a kiosk or smartphone app. This solution displays a single screen with linked information about the selected agricultural product's production and distribution process. Consumers can also check whether the product has received safety certifications and check the actual cultivation records.
