From high efficiency and excellent thermal efficiency to easy layout and simplified design

Infineon Technologies has launched the IR3883, an easy-to-use voltage regulator with high efficiency and excellent thermal efficiency. Designed for high-density point-of-load (PoL) applications, the IR3883 is suitable for network communications, telecom, servers, and storage solutions. It operates reliably using ceramic capacitors.

Conventional solutions require additional components for stability and ripple elimination, but the IR3883 can eliminate up to five components. It is easy to lay out and can feature a miniaturized PCB of less than 100 ^mm² .



The current is 4.5V to 14V and provides a maximum of 3A continuously. It is available in a small 3mm x 3mm PQFN ( power quad flat-pack no-leads) package. It saves power by switching to diode emulation mode under light loads. Additionally, it saves energy due to low current consumption in standby mode. It provides an accurate output voltage of 0.5V to 5V.

The digital OCSET prevents malfunction tripping caused by external noise and simplifies the layout for robustness. For example, PVIN/PGND and SW/BOOT are adjacent, making it suitable for placing bypass capacitors, reducing noise, and allowing for easy design.

In addition, the IR3883 provides all necessary protection functions, including pre-bias startup, thermal shutdown, overcurrent protection, internal soft start, enable pin, and power good output.
