KT Leads 4th Industrial Revolution with 5G
Published2017.06.30 09:56KT announced on the 30th that it participated in the '2017 Summer Conference of the Institute of Electronics and Information Engineers,' held at the Grand Hotel Haeundae in Busan from June 29 to July 1 under the theme 'The Fourth Industrial Revolution Created by Smart ICT Technology.'
At the opening ceremony on this day, KT Network Division President Oh Sung-mok delivered a keynote speech under the theme "The Fourth Industrial Revolution Opened by 5G." In his speech, he stated, "The advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution era, represented by the two keywords of artificial intelligence and big data, necessitates the introduction of 5G-based hyper-connected networks," and emphasized that government policy support, such as the timely allocation of 5G frequencies, is required for the commercialization of 5G.
In addition, President Oh revealed his vision, stating, “KT will showcase successful 5G technology at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics, which is attracting global attention, and based on this, achieve the world’s first 5G commercialization in 2019.”
In addition, KT held a special session at the conference on this day in collaboration with the '5G Forum' to introduce 5G technology trends. In this session, experts from domestic and international companies leading the fields of 5G systems, terminals, and test equipment, such as Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Ericsson-LG, and Rohde & Schwarz, were invited to provide a detailed introduction to the industry's efforts to realize 5G technology.
KT Network Division President Oh Sung-mok emphasized the role of 5G as a core foundation of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, stating, “For South Korea to lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution, organic cooperation across the nation, including academia and research institutions as well as efforts by the industrial sector like KT, is crucial.”

KT Proposes 'Pyeongchang 5G Standard', Adoption Completed by TTA
KT announced on the 28th that its 'PyeongChang 5G Specification' has been adopted as a standard at the 91st Information and Communications Standards General Assembly held by the Korea Information and Communications Technology Association (TTA, Telecommunication Technology Association) in Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si. The Korea Information and Communications Technology Association is an information and communications standards body established in 1988 to promote economic development, information and communications technology (ICT) industry, and technology advancement for the nation. To date, it has established and disseminated over 15,000 standards. The PyeongChang 5G Specification is the world's first 5G specification developed by the '5G Special Interest Group (5G SIG)' formed by KT with global companies including Samsung, Ericsson, Nokia, Qualcomm, and Intel. Development began in November 2015 and was completed in June 2016. It satisfies the main requirements of 5G services as stipulated by the ITU, including ultra-low latency and ultra-high speed.

TV와 음악을 제공하는 인공지능 서비스에서 가장 많이 요청한 메시지는 ‘TV 켜줘’, ‘음악 틀어줘’ 다음으로 ‘오늘 날씨 어때?’로 나타났다. ‘사랑해’, ‘우울해’와 같은 감성 메시지도 높은 비중을 차지해 인공지능 서비스를 단순히 기기가 아니라 소통의 대상으로 여기는 경향이 두드러지게 나타났다. KT는 지난 1월 말 출시한 인공지능 TV ‘기가지니’가 출시 5개월 만에 가입자 10만명을 넘어섰다고 밝혔다. 가입자의 이용행태를 분석한 결과 감성채팅이 30%로 가장 높은 비중을 보였다. 이어 TV 관련 24%, 음악 관련 22%, 기타 생활비서 13% 순으로 나타났다. 이용자가 기가지니에 가장 많이 요청한 메시지는 ‘TV 켜’, ‘TV 틀어줘’ 등 TV관련 지시였다. 이어 ‘음악 틀어줘’, ‘다음곡’ 등 음악 듣기 관련 메시지가 두 번째로 많은 비중을 차지했다.

European Patent Applications Surpass 200,000 for the First Time… South Korea Maintains 5th Place, Led by Batteries and Telecommunications
According to the European Patent Office (EPO)'s 'Technology Dashboard 2025', European patent applications last year reached 201,974, surpassing 200,000 for the first time. Korean companies and inventors filed 14,355 applications, representing a 9.5% increase from the previous year and maintaining 5th place by country. Battery, digital communication, and semiconductor technologies led the growth, with Samsung ranking as the top EPO applicant for the second consecutive year and LG reaching 3rd place. The presence of major domestic cities such as Seoul, Suwon, and Yongin was also confirmed. It was also revealed that Korea's European patent strategy is expanding beyond individual technologies to span the entire industry.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK텔레콤이 3월 21일 서울 광화문 일대에서 열린 대형 K-팝 공연에 AI 기반 네트워크 운영 시스템을 처음 적용해 통신 품질을 관리했다고 밝혔다. 공연 전후 3시간 동안 모바일 데이터 사용량은 12.15TB로 직전 주말 같은 시간대보다 약 2배 늘었다. SK텔레콤은 AI 시스템 ‘A-One’을 활용해 5분 단위, 50m 단위로 트래픽을 감시하며 과부하 가능성에 대응했고, 임시 통신 시설과 현장 인력 운영도 병행했다. 밀집 행사와 외국인 이용 수요가 동시에 늘어나는 환경에서 AI 기반 자율 네트워크 운영의 현장 적용 가능성을 확인한 사례로 해석된다.
