796 Major Nationwide Resorts Designated, Base Stations Monitored 24 Hours a Day
Expansion of intensive monitoring areas to over 180, increase in the number of base stations

KT announced that it has prepared special measures to provide stable telecommunication services in anticipation of the peak summer vacation season and will enter an intensive monitoring system from the 21st to August 31st.

KT has designated a total of 796 major vacation spots nationwide, including Haeundae in Busan and Guryongpo in Pohang, which opened last June, as well as Gyeongpo Beach and Jeongdongjin in Gangwon Province, as 'intensive monitoring areas,' and monitors approximately 3,700 LTE base stations and 1,250 3G base stations installed in these areas 24 hours a day, while maintaining an emergency recovery system in preparation for emergency situations.

KT has expanded the number of intensive monitoring areas by about 180 compared to last year and increased the number of intensive monitoring base stations by approximately 1.6 times compared to last year so that customers can use communication services without inconvenience at vacation spots nationwide during the summer vacation period.

In addition, KT completed service quality checks and optimization work targeting major transportation facilities such as Incheon Airport, which is crowded with vacationers during the holiday season, and major resorts nationwide, and increased the traffic limit that base stations can handle by an average of 40%.

KT's traffic analysis system predicted that mobile data usage at resorts would reach its peak during the peak summer vacation season from July 29 to August 6, and based on last year's data, the place with the largest surge in mobile data usage was Haeundae Beach in Busan, which saw an increase of up to 500% compared to normal times.

Meanwhile, KT has conducted safety inspections of major telecommunications facilities, stocked emergency recovery supplies such as generators on-site in preparation for emergencies like power outages or heavy rainfall, and secured alternative communication routes, thereby establishing response measures to ensure uninterrupted communication services even in the event of damage to facilities caused by disasters.
