Galaxy S8 Achieves Gold Level in U.S. Electronics Eco-friendly Certification System

Samsung Electronics' Galaxy S8 and S8+ have been recognized as eco-friendly smartphones after achieving the highest Gold rating in the U.S. Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT).
EPEAT is a mandatory qualification for entering the U.S. government procurement market, and this is the first time it has been certified for smartphones.
EPEAT certification is jointly issued by the Green Electronics Council and UL (Underwriters Laboratories), the leading safety standards organization in North America. It evaluates various criteria, including the prohibition of hazardous substances, product energy efficiency, ease of disassembly and recycling of products and packaging, and corporate social responsibility, and grants certification in three grades: Gold, Silver, and Bronze.
In addition, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ obtained the 'ECOLOGO' certification last June, based on the American National Standards Institute's 'ANSI/UL 110 standard for mobile phone sustainability.' In the UK, it received the CO₂ Measured Label from the Carbon Trust, and was also certified with the Vitality Leaf environmental mark by the Ecological Union in Russia, earning recognition as the best eco-friendly smartphone.
In addition, Samsung Electronics is also pursuing Colibri mark certification from the Brazilian Agency for Technology and Standards (ABNT).
"The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are products that embody not only excellent performance and design but also Samsung Electronics' efforts and technological prowess in developing eco-friendly products," a Samsung official said. "We plan to continue our efforts to develop eco-friendly products and expand the launch of industry-leading eco-friendly products."

Samsung Electronics Sees Q2 Earnings Soar on Increased Galaxy S8 Sales and Semiconductor Boom
Samsung Electronics announced its second quarter 2017 results on a consolidated basis, with sales of 61 trillion won and operating profit of 14.07 trillion won. Second quarter results showed sales reaching 61 trillion won, up 20% year-over-year, driven by continued favorable memory market conditions and expanded global sales of the Galaxy S8 and S8+. Operating profit also achieved 14.07 trillion won, up 5.92 trillion won year-over-year, with an operating margin of 23.1%, as component business profits increased significantly. The component business performance improved substantially due to strong memory prices, expanded sales of high-capacity server DRAM and SSDs, and increased sales of Galaxy S8 components from the System LSI and display businesses. In the second quarter, the semiconductor business achieved sales of 17.58 trillion won and operating profit of 8.03 trillion won.
