KT announced on the 3rd that it held the 'SCFA (Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement) 5G Technology Strategy Meeting' with representative telecommunications companies from Korea, China, and Japan preparing 5G services for the Olympics at the KT Research and Development Center in Umyeon-dong, Seoul.

Established in 2011, SCFA is the largest strategic consultative body among telecommunications operators in Asia. KT, representing three Northeast Asian countries, China Mobile Communication Corporation, and Japan's NTT DOCOMO are participating and actively collaborating in the fields of next-generation network technology, services, and marketing.

The SCFA 5G Technology Strategy Meeting held in Seoul this timeIt is a SCFA 5G TFT activity that started in 2015 at the suggestion of Chairman Hwang Chang-gyu, and key executives in the 5G technology field of the three companies attended to share the status of each company's 5G development and discuss future cooperation plans.

The key agenda items discussed by the three companies that day include ▲ deriving and integrating 5G requirements suitable for the Asian telecommunications market ▲ developing new services and expanding business areas for 5G ▲ verifying key 5G technologies ▲ establishing a cooperation plan to reflect 5G frequencies and key technologies in standardization activities by global organizations.

At this event, KT proposed that the representative telecommunications companies of Korea, China, and Japan cooperate to share and spread the 5G technology developed by the three companies to the world and contribute to the expansion of the 5G market size.

Meanwhile, KT, as the first telecommunications company among the three to present 5G at the Olympics, shared its know-how and preparation process for the 5G pilot service to be presented in Pyeongchang in 2018, and announced KT's 5G commercialization plan that it has been systematically preparing for and its differentiation strategy based on the Intelligent Network.

Kim Young-sik, executive director of KT INS (Intelligent Network Support) Headquarters, said, “KT has established an image as a leading 5G operator in Korea and abroad through the process of preparing 5G pilot services so far,” and “KT is already establishing a technology differentiation strategy based on global standards to commercialize 5G for the first time in the world, and we plan to continue our efforts to commercialize 5G together with global manufacturers.”
