Combining Denso's experience with Xperi's imaging and recognition technologies

XPERI announced that it has entered into a partnership with DENSO, a supplier of automotive image sensor modules and systems, to jointly develop a Level 3 driver assistance system based on FotoNation's image recognition technology.

This collaboration is significant in that it combines the sophisticated facial recognition and neural network technologies of Photonation with Denso, which possesses extensive know-how in the field of driver state monitoring. Through this technological collaboration, Denso plans to introduce the world's most sophisticated driver state recognition system, which is unaffected by whether the driver is wearing sunglasses, a mask, or a face covering, even inside a car where light levels change constantly.



Through this, Denso plans to further accelerate the development of next-generation products, including a system that allows the driver to switch to driving mode in Level 3 autonomous driving, through this partnership.

Denso has been providing 'driver status monitoring systems' for large trucks and large tour buses since 2014. The company's safety system captures the driver's image using a vehicle camera and detects drowsy driving by sensing the driver's facial angle through computer vision technology. It detects driver drowsiness through an exclusive algorithm that precisely analyzes the driver's eye blinking, and prevents accidents by providing a warning sound when the driver is distracted or drowsy.
