Hoho, now even iPhone filters out spam messages
Published2017.12.12 14:22Hoohoo & Company announced that it is providing a 'spam message filtering' function through its 'Hoohoo' application to reduce inconvenience caused by spam text messages on the iPhone.
The iPhone WhoWho's 'Spam Message Filtering' feature utilizes the newly released 'SMS Filtering' feature of iOS 11, and is a function that automatically classifies messages that WhoWho determines to have a high possibility of being spam into the 'Junk Message Inbox'.
If a user receives a text message from a number that he or she has blocked directly on WhoWho or a number that is in the top 5% of spam phone numbers reported on WhoWho, the text message is automatically classified into the 'Junk Message Box' and no arrival notifications are sent, so the user can experience the same effect as spam text message blocking. Additionally, blocked text messages can be checked through the ‘Junk Messages Inbox’.
This is a significant improvement over the inconvenience of existing iPhone users having to select phone numbers one by one from their incoming call log to block spam text messages and set 'block caller' or not being able to separately check the contents of blocked text messages.
The iPhone Whoo Whoo 'Spam Message Filtering' feature can be used by going to 'Settings', 'Messages', selecting 'Unknown Contacts and Spam', and activating 'Whoo Whoo' after updating to iOS 11 in Whoo Whoo v2.4.1 or later.
Ryu Hyeong-geun, head of the service planning group at HooHoo & Company, said, “With this spam message filtering function, iPhone HooHoo users can now use the service more conveniently.” He added, “We will continue to strive to provide even more convenient services in line with changes in the OS environment.”

European Patent Applications Surpass 200,000 for the First Time… South Korea Maintains 5th Place, Led by Batteries and Telecommunications
According to the European Patent Office (EPO)'s 'Technology Dashboard 2025', European patent applications last year reached 201,974, surpassing 200,000 for the first time. Korean companies and inventors filed 14,355 applications, representing a 9.5% increase from the previous year and maintaining 5th place by country. Battery, digital communication, and semiconductor technologies led the growth, with Samsung ranking as the top EPO applicant for the second consecutive year and LG reaching 3rd place. The presence of major domestic cities such as Seoul, Suwon, and Yongin was also confirmed. It was also revealed that Korea's European patent strategy is expanding beyond individual technologies to span the entire industry.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK텔레콤이 3월 21일 서울 광화문 일대에서 열린 대형 K-팝 공연에 AI 기반 네트워크 운영 시스템을 처음 적용해 통신 품질을 관리했다고 밝혔다. 공연 전후 3시간 동안 모바일 데이터 사용량은 12.15TB로 직전 주말 같은 시간대보다 약 2배 늘었다. SK텔레콤은 AI 시스템 ‘A-One’을 활용해 5분 단위, 50m 단위로 트래픽을 감시하며 과부하 가능성에 대응했고, 임시 통신 시설과 현장 인력 운영도 병행했다. 밀집 행사와 외국인 이용 수요가 동시에 늘어나는 환경에서 AI 기반 자율 네트워크 운영의 현장 적용 가능성을 확인한 사례로 해석된다.

ETRI Develops 200Gbps Photodetector… Initiates Localization of Optical Receivers for AI Data Centers
The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) has developed a photodetector device that processes optical signals of approximately 200Gbps per channel for the first time in Korea. This device is a component that converts optical signals into electrical signals and determines the reception performance of AI data centers and 5G/6G communication networks. ETRI achieved bandwidth of 70GHz or higher and optical responsivity of 0.75A/W or higher, and integrated an indium phosphide lens on the rear of the chip to enhance optical reception efficiency and alignment convenience. The technology was presented at OECC 2025 and was recently published in the international academic journal 'Optics Express'.
