B&R unveiled its industrial IoT solution, Orange Box, at 'SEMICON Korea 2018', held for three days from January 31st.

Orange Box is a solution that digitalizes existing factories into smart factories without hardware or software changes, enabling access to machine and system operation data. One of the semiconductor industry's long-standing challenges is managing interfaces between different models. Orange Box addresses this through real-time data analysis, compatibility with third-party PLCs, non-programmable parameterization, and support for B&R's HMI application (Map View), ERP/MES, and other platforms.



Nestlé, which faced other challenges with its inter-factory line control technology, overcame them with a solution from B&R. B&R provides a multi-protocol gateway that allows Nestlé to manage its PLC protocol via panel I/O, along with a factory-wide data acquisition system (PDA). Shipbuilders also use B&R's I/O and PLCs for data collection capabilities and secure remote maintenance.

The Orange Box, which supports various functions, provides compatibility with different machines and the ability to access and monitor information regardless of whether it is used in greenfield or brownfield environments, ultimately providing companies with the advantage of meeting customer demands, reducing costs, and optimizing efficiency.

B&R's Vice President Sa Jae-hoon said, "We have high compatibility, communication technology that guarantees real-time data transmission cycles to each machine, and high flexibility," and explained the reason for participating in SEMICON, saying, "We will optimize cost and efficiency by providing solutions and platforms to the automation market."
