Open source hardware resource linking 8-bit project use
STMicroelectronics released the STM8 Nucleo development boards NUCLEO-8S208RB and NUCLEO-8L152R8 on the 13th.

The STM8 Nucleo board can access all input/output I/Os of the STM8 8-bit microcontroller STM8 MCU through the ST Morpho expansion header. It also features an Arduino Uno connector that simplifies the expansion of functionality by providing access to a vast ecosystem, such as compatible shields for the open-source hardware platform Arduino.

The major toolchains supported for these two STM8 Nucleo boards include the Cosmic IDEA toolchain, the IAR EWSTM8 integrated development environment, and ST's free STVD IDE. Convenient features such as drag-and-drop flash programming are also provided for rapid and seamless design work. Since each board comes with an ST-LINK debugger/programmer, a separate debug probe is not required.

With the addition of this entry-level STM8 configuration, more than 40 Nucleo boards are now available, and a roadmap encompassing performance, power, and memory combinations across 8-bit and 32-bit microcontroller families has been established. Product development is fluid and flexible due to easy access to the open-source hardware community, and software and hardware can be adjusted and optimized at any time, eliminating risk and shortening time-to-market.

The newly released NUCLEO-8S208RB and NUCLEO-8L152R8 boards (including 64-pin STM8S208 and STM8L152 microcontrollers, respectively) are currently available for purchase at $10.32.
