Infineon Technologies has added a 400MHz performance class to its AURIX TC3x automotive microcontroller (MCU). The company explained that this is focused on meeting the growing demand for real-time computing while reducing the costs and risks associated with platform changes when boosting ECU (electronic control unit) performance.

Infineon officially announced the 400MHz option on March 3 (Munich, Germany), and announced the related information in Korea on March 5 (Seoul).

According to the company, the 400MHz device increases CPU frequency by up to one-third compared to existing TC3x models, providing the "performance headroom" needed to accommodate increased control algorithm complexity, expanded diagnostic capabilities, and new communication requirements. At the same time, the company has chosen an approach that extends performance within the TC3x architecture while preserving existing software, safety concepts, and hardware design investments.

Application areas include engine management systems (EMS), chassis control, ADAS, and domain controllers. Infineon cited enhanced real-time control loop integration in EMS and compliance with emissions and diagnostic regulations (Euro 7, China 7, etc.) as examples, and in safety-critical systems such as chassis and ESC, it presented securing response performance through increased sensor input and enhanced diagnostics.

Regarding the supply schedule, the company stated, “The first product line will begin production in 2026.”
