In the SDV era, vehicles are evolving into "mobile computers," and a clear trend is emerging where communication quality directly becomes vehicle performance. LG Electronics' R16-based 5G telematics supplied to European OEMs supports ultra-reliable and low-latency communication (URLLC), enhancing stability of critical functions such as autonomous driving, OTA, and V2X. Additionally, the integrated structure combining the communication module and up to 12 antennas into one unit reduces signal loss and decreases wiring, weight, and cost while expanding design freedom in vehicles. The competitiveness of future automobiles depends not on engines but on how quickly and reliably the cloud, AI, and road infrastructure are connected to vehicles, and the R16-based integrated communication platform is evaluated as a critical infrastructure for the SDV era.
