The three major telecommunications companies propose cooperation on 5G services.

The CEOs of telecommunication companies representing Korea, China, and Japan gathered together to collaborate on ICT services.

KT announced on the 20th that Chairman Hwang Chang-gyu met with representatives of China Mobile and NTT Docomo at the 'SCFA (Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement, hereinafter referred to as SCFA),' the largest strategic consultative body among telecommunications operators in Asia, to discuss 5G cooperation and other topics.

SCFA was launched in 2011 at the suggestion of KT to foster comprehensive business cooperation among the three major telecommunications companies in Northeast Asia. The three companies have collaborated across wired and wireless network technology, roaming, apps and content, IoT, energy, and marketing. The annual general meeting, attended by the CEOs of each company, marks its fifth year.

This year's SCFA General Assembly was attended by representatives and key executives from various telecommunications companies, including KT Chairman Hwang Chang-gyu, China Mobile Chairman Xiang Bing, and NTT Docomo President Kaoru Kato. This was my first meeting with China Mobile Chairman Xiang Bing, who took office in August, and I have been working with NTT Docomo President Kaoru Kato for two years.

On this day, Chairman Hwang Chang-gyu proposed that the three telecommunications companies representing each country comprehensively cooperate in technology and services, including 5G, in relation to the Olympic Games being held sequentially in Pyeongchang, South Korea in 2018, Tokyo, Japan in 2020, and Beijing, China in 2022. In particular, he mentioned that the 5G pilot service that KT will present through the PyeongChang Olympics will be the starting point for the 5G-based technology that the other two countries will present at their subsequent Olympics, and that it is expected to be a turning point for the three telecommunications companies of Korea, China, and Japan to lead the world in 5G.

KT introduced and demonstrated KTCS's spam blocking application, "Who Who," and also showcased its "Smart Mobile Charging Solution," a pilot project slated for launch in China in the second half of next year in collaboration with China Mobile, which received positive feedback. KT plans to actively pursue collaboration with China Mobile and NTT Docomo, continuously identifying potential joint ventures.

Meanwhile, KT achieved the world's first two-way VoLTE roaming commercialization with NTT Docomo this year, and also successfully launched a customized local version of Olleh Market Webtoon with China Mobile. Notably, China Mobile and NTT Docomo are also joining the "GiGA IoT Alliance," Korea's largest IoT operator alliance proposed and led by KT. This collaboration among Korea, China, and Japan is expected to lay the foundation for leading the global telecommunications market.
