CES 2016 Press Conference Held: Best Picture Quality Anytime, Anywhere, Quantum Dot Display 'SUHD TV'

On the 5th (local time), Samsung Electronics held a press conference at CES 2016, the world's largest consumer electronics show, in Las Vegas, USA, and presented its vision for innovative products and the Internet of Things (IoT) that enable meaningful changes in consumers' daily lives.

With approximately 1,500 media and industry representatives filling the venue on this day, a wide range of products were showcased, including Quantum Dot Display SUHD TVs, smart home appliances that care for families using IoT technology, and more diversified mobile products and solutions, attracting the attention of visitors.

Tim Baxter, Vice President of Samsung Electronics America, who spoke at the event, emphasized, “Samsung Electronics has continuously strived to realize a smart life for consumers, and at this CES, various Samsung products are interconnected through IoT technology, bringing us one step closer to realizing IoT in everyday life.” He further announced, “We will strive even harder to improve the quality of life for consumers by strengthening various innovative products and ecosystems that truly care for customers.”

Unveiled 65-inch and 78-inch Quantum Dot Displays

Quantum dot displays are the most recently developed next-generation display materials, featuring nano-sized (one-billionth) fine particles that can express purer colors and dazzling brightness than any other display material. In addition, unlike organic materials that fade over time, they are composed of inorganic materials and are characterized by excellent durability that maintains clear colors and brightness for a long time.

SUHD TVs are equipped with HDR (High Dynamic Range) technology, which faithfully reproduces even the brilliance of the sun and the flash of lightning on the TV screen, and Ultra Black technology, which absorbs reflected light that interferes with viewing to near zero.

Joe Stinziano, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics America, explained, “The SUHD TV is the only TV that takes into account the viewing environment,” adding, “It displays the best picture quality in any environment, whether it is a bright day or a dark night.”

For the sake of perfection, a '360-degree design' was applied where not a single screw is visible from the outside, and the world's first 'bezel-less curved design' that eliminates the bezel around the screen allows users to experience infinite immersion where the image on the screen is not confined within the TV frame.

Samsung Electronics also demonstrated a new smart TV product on stage for the first time, which allows users to view and enjoy all content at a glance with a single remote control.

All menus integrated into 'Smart Hub', control everything with a single remote

Because all menus, including Live TV, internet-based broadcasting services 'OTT (Over the Top),' and games, have been integrated into a single screen on the 'Smart Hub,' the home screen of the Smart TV, you can go directly to the content you want to watch with just one click from the home screen. In addition, peripheral devices connected to the TV, such as set-top boxes, game consoles, and home theaters, are automatically recognized, allowing you to control them all with a single Samsung TV remote.

Lee Won-jin, Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ Visual Display Business, expressed confidence, stating, “Now, there will be no need to go around looking for different remotes for each device in the living room.”
Michael Angus, Executive Vice President of Time Warner Cable (TWC), took the stage that day and added significance by stating, “It is unprecedented in the history of TV for TV manufacturers and the cable industry to join hands for the advancement of smart TVs.”

In particular, 2016 is expected to be the first year that TVs become the center of the spread of the Internet of Things by equipping all of Samsung Electronics' smart TV lineups with IoT technology.

Meanwhile, new audio products were also unveiled for the first time to help the brand take a leap forward as an innovative audio brand. Samsung Electronics also unveiled the HW-K950 soundbar, which allows users to enjoy cinema-like 3D surround sound with 5.1.4 channels.

Home appliances that offer a new daily life through IoT technology

Samsung Electronics kicked off its home appliance division presentation with the unveiling of new 'ActiveWash' washing machines, which sparked a pre-wash craze in the global market last year.

The upgraded 'ActiveWash' washing machine, which actively incorporates consumer feedback, particularly stands out for its ergonomic design. Considering real-world usage environments, the controls are positioned in the middle of the door for the most comfortable operation, eliminating the need to bend over or lower one's head. The 'AddWash' drum washing machine, already highly popular in the Korean market for its convenient laundry adding function, was also introduced to overseas consumers for the first time.

At this event, Samsung Electronics also unveiled the 'Family Hub' refrigerator for the first time, which fully applies innovative IoT technology to the refrigerator—a product frequently used in daily life and already familiar to users. The high-definition screen allows users to check the refrigerator's operating status at a glance, and a camera mounted inside the compartment enables them to check stored food anytime, anywhere via a smartphone, helping to prevent forgetting items or making unnecessary purchases while shopping.

In addition, through collaboration with specialized retailers and credit card companies, you can receive the latest shopping information in real time and easily purchase necessary items with just a few touches. Schedules, photos, and memos stored on family members' smartphones can be easily shared through the 'Family Hub' refrigerator, and the doorIt is also possible to listen to the radio or listen to music through the speakers mounted on it.

Samsung Electronics, a leader in mobile innovation, unveiled two new models of the wearable device 'Gear S2 Classic' and the Windows 10-based tablet 'Galaxy Tab Pro S' for the first time at a press conference.

The newly unveiled 'Gear S2 Classic' will be released in 'Rose Gold' with an ivory leather band and 'Platinum' with a black leather band.

The Gear S2 is scheduled to launch the NFC (Near Field Communication)-based Samsung Pay service in Korea and the U.S. early this year. Additionally, compatibility with Apple's iOS will be available, and preparations are underway to allow users to download and use the Samsung Gear Manager from the Apple Store.

The 'Gear S2' is showcasing a variety of applications and straps through collaborations with various domestic and international partners. The 'Galaxy Tab Pro S' is a 12-inch premium tablet based on the Windows 10 operating system that combines the advantages of a laptop and a tablet.

The 'Galaxy Tab Pro S', equipped with an Intel Core M processor, will be released in two versions: 'Windows 10 Home' for general consumers and 'Windows 10 Pro', which is more optimized for business.

The Galaxy Tab Pro S boasts a thickness of 6.3mm and a lightweight design of 693g. Consumers can carry the device with one hand without any burden, and it is convenient to carry in a bag. The 12-inch Super AMOLED display delivers rich and vivid colors, providing the best image quality.

The Galaxy Tab Pro S is the first Windows tablet to support LTE Category 6, providing seamless real-time video and internet connectivity. It is also equipped with a fast charging feature that allows for a full charge in two and a half hours and provides approximately 10 hours of usage.

The Galaxy Tab Pro S is a 2-in-1 tablet that also comes with a full-size dedicated keyboard. The dedicated keyboard is thin and lightweight, and features a flexible hinge that allows for the setting of optimal dual angles for the clearest display.
